Flying to Beijing to shoot the September issue of Esquire and Harper’s Bazaar. This airport replaced cashier humans with robots. I bought a $2 water from it. Kinda creepy.

The film is actually exceedingly realistic. The supernatural is reduced to a series of PTSD hallucinations—Athena is merely a projection of an innocent girl murdered in Troy, also of Iphigenia. A prominent part of Homer's Odyssey is the transformation in the divine and in politics. Nolan's Odyssey is a secular humanist's wet dream of post-religion world peace.

The pettiness of people complaining that The Odyssey lacks 'realistic' casting. My dude, it has a one-eyed monster who sucks soldiers' heads like lollipops and a witch who strokes men's heads until they turn into pigs. Realism isn't the point.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine halted relationships between Russian and Western museums. This allowed Russian works to come to China, such as the Dostoevsky exhibition “Man is A Mystery” curated by Chen DanQing. I gave a lecture on Dostoevsky and political theory at his invitation

Dinner with Chen DanQing, legendary artist. In the 80s, his oil paintings of Tibetans changed the direction of Chinese contemporary art from Soviet propaganda style into western realism. He is in his 70s. Told me stories of meeting Andy Warhol in Ai Wei Wei’s apartment.
