Isidor was born in France and has played for the national team at youth level but has decided to represent Haiti ahead of a big summer of World Cup football. “My grandpa and my dad were born in Haiti,” he said “Because I’m French, it was difficult to make a choice. I had to choose between my mum and my dad! “I’m really happy with that choice. I’m learning a lot about the country and learning about the culture. I really want to be into it.” By switching allegiance, Isidor also makes history by becoming the first Haitian player to have played for Sunderland. He continued: “When I say yes to the call-up, I wanted to help the country grow and achieve a lot of things. But it’s great to be the first Haitian player to play for Sunderland. I hope there is more in the future and they can be inspired by me.” Haiti are competing at their second World Cup campaign when the tournament rolls around this summer.
