A Nigerian man, Eke Ugochukwu, was sentenced to 20 years in South Africa for human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl. The victim was drugged and held captive in Johannesburg after running away from home. The High Court condemned his "inhuman" actions, highlighting the ongoing battle against exploitation. Meanwhile, social media users often confuse this with Ike Ekweremadu’s UK case. The former Senator received nearly 10 years for an organ-harvesting plot. Both cases underscore a global crackdown on trafficking, ensuring perpetrators face justice. Protect the vulnerable. 🇳🇬🇿🇦

Three Zimbabweans Sentenced to Life in Gauteng Court for Trafficking Vulnerable Orphaned Children Using Fake Documents for Ireland Escape Plot Three Zimbabwean nationals have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg after being convicted of human trafficking, fraud, and related immigration offences involving vulnerable minor children. The court found they orchestrated a scheme to move children out of South Africa using fraudulent travel documents. The arrests followed an operation at OR Tambo International Airport on 1 August 2022, when Hilda Tenenga was intercepted while attempting to travel with four minor children using fake documentation. Investigations led by Warrant Officer Claas Ranthakgoa uncovered a wider trafficking network aimed at moving the children to Ireland, resulting in the arrest of Sthembiso Mlauzi and Kumburai Andrew Masimo. During the trial, the court heard that the accused posed as family members to facilitate the unlawful movement of the children. They were convicted on multiple charges including human trafficking, fraud, possession of fraudulent documents, and contravention of the Immigration Act. Acting Judge Bokako imposed four life sentences for trafficking, along with 12 years for fraud, 15 years for document offences, and two years for immigration violations, all running concurrently. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole welcomed the outcome, saying it demonstrated South Africa’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children exploited through trafficking networks. The accused remained in custody after their bail was cancelled by the Director of Public Prosecutions during proceedings, with the court reinforcing a strict stance against human trafficking crimes.

We are told that #Mazwi was dropped off in the middle of nowhere. He then asked for help and managed to get to the police station. He is currently receiving medical attention. He isn’t in the best condition. Seriously traumatised. @eNCA #Mazwi
