@NewEraMiah Love Marv, and he was a great WR here. Still, I don’t think you can point to a single game where he just took over. Where, when we needed a play in critical moments, that you dialed up something for Marv to take us down the field. The real greats do that.

@BuckeyesB715 Desmond is exactly who he is, never surprising with what he says and 100% predictable content. The question is, ‘why is this the type of analysis ESPN wants?’ He adds nothing to the broadcast that couldn’t be handled far better by thousands of casual viewers, except hate on OSU.

@Clowfb I think an argument could be made that all those schools had the potential. Saban had support others didn’t have from Administration to stay way ahead of the curve. Recruiting was elite, but his use of analysts put Bama on top. Former HCs as specialists for situational football.

Nobody would debate the talent has been spread out now and schools can’t stockpile depth the way they once could, but did Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Texas, USC, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, Penn State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Miami etc not have those same baked in advantages?

Good column. Saban has a blind spot for this. He capitalized on a system where Alabama had all kinds of baked in advantages over the competition. Now, he did so in an unprecedented way and Bama wasn't the only school that had those advantages. He was best at optimizing them.

@MartyClemons7 @BrandonLeeFX Not sure how much big time college or NFL football you watch, but that’s 100% open. Ball has to be on time. Mid major, WRs probably get two steps on a short route like that. And real programs, DBs stick. When he turns, he’s open. Ball has to be on time.

Jeremiah Smith has always had elite traits.
But one thing I’ve consistently questioned is his ability to create separation down after down.
Not flashes.
Not highlights.
Consistency.
That is the next step.
