Still not sure what last week’s U-turn really means for pubs? Let’s break it down. Pubs across England are set to receive a 15% reduction in their business rates bills, frozen in real terms over the next two years. Three-quarters of pubs will now see their bills either stay the same or fall, meaning the sector will pay 8% less in real terms overall. Watch our explainer below for a detailed breakdown 👇

We predict that an additional 12 million pints will be poured throughout Guinness’ Six Nations tournament, delivering a £60m boost to the sector. In what will be a huge moment for British pubs, it’s worth remembering that English, Scottish and Welsh fans are paying three times more in beer duty than their French and Italian counterparts, with the recent rise in beer duty further widening this gap. We welcome the Government’s latest U-turn on business rates and it’s vital that we work together to improve affordability across the sector by bringing beer duty more in line with our European neighbours.
