Despite feeling like Miami skips the season, spring is here! Our team spotted the Blackpoll warbler making its way back to Canada from Brazil. These unique migratory paths help indicate the change in seasons for our bird team before the flowers start to bloom.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way thanks to our trades department! 🔨 Our team recently undertook a new project to build a HUGE 26-foot-tall shade structure for our African elephants. 🐘

Zoo Miami received another bomb threat today and temporarily closed while deputies from the Sheriff’s Office including K-9 units already on site conducted a sweep. The park was quickly given the all clear.  We will reopen to the public on Monday with enhanced security measures.

Did you know that acupuncture has been used on animals for thousands of years? It’s often used in veterinary care to help with mobility challenges, arthritis, or nerve issues. For Koda, it’s just one of the ways our team helps keep him feeling his best. 🧘‍♂️

Zoo Miami will reopen tomorrow with enhanced security measures in coordination with local law enforcement. Guests may notice increased security presence, including K-9 units. The safety of our guests, staff, and animals remains our top priority.

In an abundance of caution, Zoo Miami is currently closed to the public following an anonymous phone call reporting a bomb threat. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Our scientific paper was accepted in the journal Florida Entomologist. We describe for the first time how the Pine Rockland trapdoor spider possibly consumed the invasive New Guinea flatworm. We are beyond excited to continue learning and sharing our findings on #SaveASpiderDay
