The irony of this is kinda insane. For 7 years NA top players couldn’t just take a train to play each other and didn’t have majors in their backyard every other week. NA has always been behind in “practice volume” but now it’s an issue because we can effectively practice?

@brodyoby @karasu_yyc I can agree it’s a tough ask for people to get a new switch and mod it, but I do think if it is normalized it would eventually unify competitors and also push people to improve the way people always should have without huge input delay.

@ZooUnderscore @karasu_yyc But in a scene where not every switch can be modded, not every person wants the risk of getting their account banned, not everyone wants an unfair fight, this mod does not unify the competitors nor bring an equality to the type of game people push to improve in.

It’s interesting people calling the mod cheating when it’s just to make the game smoother for the player. To me at least, it’s like if someone can’t afford a high end PC for OW/MR and then call people that have good framerate cheaters because they have a good PC.

Fun winning 2 big wifi tourneys beside some brokies telling me to turn off my mod 💀. Hope it gets normalized regardless of who have it. I even left my Crew cause the other team was calling it cheating, like go ahead and enjoy the slop that's vanilla online

@SixKayFN @Llama5789 Oh yeah I know it’s a lot more complicated and grass roots but that just smash in general. The market also isn’t as big as PC’s so it’s not as inaccessible as you’d think. You can find one on ebay for like 100$ and see if the seller has good reviews and you’re all set

@Llama5789 I know the difference. Point was that it gives an advantage that you can get simply buy buying better hardware. I know how big 6 frames is and I think everyone taking the game seriously should get an unpatched switch because it’s a better experience.

@brodyoby @karasu_yyc That goes back to my original analogy. If it’s not a viable option for you to buy the hardware for a better advantage then you just gotta deal with it or not play comp. If you go into a shooter tournament with a console that allows PCs then there’ll naturally be disadvantages

@brodyoby @karasu_yyc But why would we as competitors choose a worse tournament experience because people are unwilling to buy a 100$ unpatched switch. Why not make it a normality for everyone to have mods so we can play a better game in general.

@ZooUnderscore @karasu_yyc If there's money involved, that should be even stronger reasoning to ensure that the people playing are in honest measurement. The mod gives only the person with the mod an advantage, so it's unfair. Ling literally cheated for money in the quote, I do agree with the disclosure.

@brodyoby @karasu_yyc I’m not saying turn it on and run through elite smashers with it. I’m just saying in a tournament with money involved, people should be encouraged to get mods and play in a more competitive environment, and tournaments should start disclosing that they allow the mods.

@brodyoby @karasu_yyc No, I see it moreso like you wouldn’t go into a Marvel Rivals tournament with a potato PC and then get upset at people with 4080’s. Tournaments also wouldn’t force everyone to go to 60fps just because Joe only has a 2060 ti.

@ZooUnderscore @karasu_yyc I would accept the idea that using it to practice in Arena Mode is fine if both parties consent. Using a mod that only improves one player in a competition is blatant cheating. Based on your logic, this is ok because people know it isn't a secret?

@Therealbroskis It’s really not that rare. I mean yeah you can’t just go on amazon and buy it but they are sold a bunch still for around 100$ which in terms of price is nothing comparatively to what you need for PCs. I just think if you care about comp you would buy better hardware for it.

@ZooUnderscore There's only a limited amount and theyre not readily available. :3 I think its cool. But you shouldn't allow the mods in tourney imo. Hard to monitor. If you wanna play w/o, host your own tourney or play to practice with the homies

@karasu_yyc Not really because the community knows about it and most players accept the mod, it’s not some secret. It helps play the game as close to offline as possible. If money is on the line for competitive tournaments I would also want the best quality of gameplay.

@Therealbroskis Oh yeah I know that because I have a mod-able switch aswell because I had mine since it came out. I just mean it’s pretty normal to spend money on hardware to get higher quality gameplay in other games but because it’s a mod, people consider it cheating.

@ZooUnderscore Iirc you have to have an older switch to be able to do this. Like the first few versions because at some point Nintendo made the switch unmoddable. I could be wrong. So it's not really a matter of getting a "high end pc" more so a model version of a switch that is no longer made
