I really do appreciate the sentiment behind this post but Northern Ireland (and Ireland as a whole...no politics intended here) is a biodiversity wasteland. Rather than being "the best" we genuinely are one of the world's very worst. Ireland's natural state is largely broadleaf forest and now well below 1% of Northern Ireland is native woodland. The largest lake in the United Kingdom and Ireland is poisoned and dying due to our agricultural practices and local authorities continue to seek to destroy and suffocate each and every green space beneath a sports pitch. Our baseline expectations for wildlife and wilderness are such that we think that lifeless barren hills are beautiful and when we see a wild living creature we are astounded.
