@SterlingBelikov HK416, it uses the short stroke gas-piston system, so no carbon builds up in the chamber thus keeping the bolt clean. USMC's M27 IAR, is a variant of the 416 and the M27 spoiled my ass. 2000+ rounds at a range and only spent 5 min cleaning for the armory to accept it.

@DergMalurgen Once the snake went back to the reef, my squad leader, who was with me, had a mini panic attack thinking I was going to die, but we still went out to the lighthouse and chilled there for a few hours before going back.

@DergMalurgen Yup, had too, and I instantly recognized what it was and forced my self to remain calm and keep swimming with my snorkel up. Panic = death, if I stopped, death, if my heart rate got to fast, death. That encounter locked in a level of stress control that is still with me.

@DergMalurgen Yup, about a good 200 yards from shore, and the bite has a numbing quality, so you wouldn't know if you're bit. The only way I knew it was swimming between my pecs was that I felt its tail brush the inside of my leg. I looked down and was nose to nose with it.

@Ztn138 It can cause paralysis if you get bit! That's terrifying in the water!

@DergMalurgen The Sea Krait left dance pretty much killed my fear of death. Since then, it takes true danger just to get an adrenaline rush.

@DergMalurgen Yup, innumerable rattle snakes, black snake in Australia, cobra in the Philippines, and #1 spending 15 min swimming with a Sea Krait practacly attached to my chest in Okinawa. Almost ran over by an APC.

@DergMalurgen Wildlife encounters have been my bane. Multiple times I've come across a situations where I could get bit and have no means of antivenum.

@Ztn138 At least it gave you understanding and perspective, regardless of the cons. I can only imagine what you went through!

@DergMalurgen Thankfully, no direct combat; however, training for that does stick with you, along with a lot of close calls with death, and bearing witness to some atrocities in Africa. Makes events in the Western world insignificant.

@DergMalurgen Wouldn't say 'positively'; a lot of seriously messed-up shit in the world. Like I said, perspective and understanding of the human condition.

@DergMalurgen Thank you, and for all the hardships that came with service, I would do it all again. It provided a perspective that has become fundamental to me.
