Durham, It started decades ago. I didn’t know then, but I know now. I could not imagine that when I came to the “big city” of Durham from a small town in eastern NC, looking up at University Tower, this city would push me to run for mayor and vote for me to win. I will not take for granted the trust you have placed in me by electing me as your next mayor. It is with a heart full of love for this beautiful city and its remarkable people that I express my deepest thanks. Thank you for choosing me, Durham. It is not what I will do as your mayor that matters most – it’s what we will do together to make this city work for everybody. I promise to continue to serve this city with all my heart and soul. Together with our regional and city representatives, and most importantly, with all of you, we will create a Durham that we can all be proud of. With shared dreams for a better tomorrow, we will move forward together. I also extend my congratulations to my fellow council members on their victories last night.
