Great idea to write a letter to respond to the same recurring question of how to get into VC. I get the same question regarding growth equity so this has inspired me to do the same. Looking forward to checking out Bill’s new book as well.

"So You Want to be a VC" Im enjoying this week in Boston visiting students promoting my new book - Runnin Down a Dream. Not surprisingly, many ask me about trying to break into venture capital. I wrote a letter answering this question 15 years ago. I would send it out when people inquired. I'm making it public for the first time - with zero modifications. 1) I think it holds up well 2) make sure and read my new book also 3) I probably can't help with followups (as suggested in the letter) Hope you find it useful. Good luck!

🚨🚨🚨 $GME-Over 51% off-exchange… quiet accumulation hiding in plain sight 😏
Price barely moving, volume light, but more than half the flow not hitting lit markets.
Looks dead on the surface, underneath it’s being worked.
$GME sitting flat while market drifts green, no real selling pressure showing up.
Add compression + low IV + off-exchange dominance… setup getting tighter.
Break over $23.30 and all that hidden flow starts chasing instead of absorbing.⏳️

🚨🚨🚨 $GME-Over 58% off-exchange volume and people still acting like price discovery is happening in broad daylight.
Nah.
Majority of flow getting internalized, printed away from lit books, then price shows up looking “weak” into the close.
Indexes ripping, liquidity everywhere, and $GME just sits there pinned because real demand never fully hits the tape.
Low IV, high dark pool usage, controlled close…classic setup.
When volume shifts back to lit venues, price won’t politely trend..it’ll gap and leave people wondering where the move came from 😏

The @BarkingPuppy8 thinking he has the same effect as @TheRoaringKitty when it comes to breaking through Wall Street algorithms.

I’m probably really late on this one, but yesterdays reported short volume for $GME was 87%, which is the highest percentage of short volume on record.
GME has never had a higher percentage short volume in a day.
I checked data going all the way back to 2019 and the second closest day was July 28, 2020.
