Most people think a recruiter read their resume and decided to reject them. That is usually not what happened. In most cases, a recruiter has not even seen your resume. This is how the ATS actually works. First, remote roles receive hundreds or sometimes thousands of applications. It is impossible for a recruiter to manually review every single one. So companies set an ATS threshold that automatically filters the pool down to a manageable number. Second, the system scores resumes based on keyword matching. It pulls the most common keywords from the job description and checks how many of those words appear in your resume. Third, someone with 3 years of experience who mirrors the language used in the job description can easily rank higher than someone with 8 years of experience who describes their work using different words. The system is not measuring intelligence or capability. It is simply measuring keyword alignment. Another mistake many job seekers make is using the same resume for every application. Every job description is different. Each one contains its own keywords and priorities so one static resume cannot perform well across multiple roles. This is why I always tell people to adjust their resume before applying. Run your resume against the job description. Check your match score. Identify the missing keywords or ways to improve it. Rewrite the relevant bullet points so your experience reflects the language used in the role. Then submit the application. Our resume analyzer on @remoteworkpadi does this in less than 60 seconds. You can scan your resume and know your ATS score for FREE at remoteworkpadi.com

If an interviewer asks “tell me about yourself”, do not make this mistake. A lot of people think this question is just a warm up question so they start talking about: - When they were born. - Where they went to school. - Every job they have ever had. And before they realize it, they have spent three minutes talking but they have not said anything that actually matters to the interviewer. That question is not a casual one. It is actually a strategic question. What the interviewer really wants to know is why they should consider you for the role? So when you answer that question, your focus should not be your life story, it should be your PROFESSIONAL STORY. Talk about what you currently do, the experience that is most relevant to the role and the impact you have made in your previous roles. For example, if you are applying for a customer success role, your answer should highlight how you help customers succeed, manage relationships and the kind of results you have delivered. This question is your opportunity to set the tone for the entire interview and one simple way to structure your answer is by thinking through the STAR method. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action and Result. - Situation is the context. What was happening? - Task is what you were responsible for. - Action is what you actually did. - Result is the outcome of your work. Using this structure helps you give clear and convincing answers instead of vague explanations. Here is an example. “Currently, I work as a Customer Success Manager where I support clients after they purchase our platform and help them achieve results from the product. In my previous role, I managed a portfolio of about 60 customers where product adoption was initially low, with only about 35% actively using key features. I introduced structured onboarding calls, created simplified product guides, and collaborated with the product team to resolve recurring issues. Within 4 months, adoption increased to about 70% and we retained over 85% of those accounts during renewal. That experience is one of the reasons I’m excited about this role at your company. I enjoy helping customers see real value from a product and I believe the same proactive approach can help your customers achieve stronger outcomes as well.” Now this kind of answer shows your experience, thinking process and the value you bring. So the next time you hear “tell me about yourself”, do not panic or ramble. Use it as your opportunity to present a clear story about who you are professionally and why you are a strong fit for the role. Follow for more 💛 PS: Don’t miss Day 2 of #roadtooneyearanniversary by 4PM 🥳🫶

The double standards on this streets of TwitterNG is smelly. You know an outfit isn’t appropriate for the occasion. You won’t wear it or let any of your family members dress that way. Somehow it’s okay because someone else is wearing it. Fix your broken moral compass!!!

@tomilola_ng On a final note, please know how to take feedback gracefully. You have your convictions and I know internet people can be imposing in the name of giving feedback, but just display grace and humility. That’s what shows you’re easy to work with.

People will pay for what they believe is valuable to them. This is not a “Nigeria” problem, it’s human psychology. It’s just harder in Nigeria because of the purchasing power of the average Nigerian. You’d be amaze the kind of things Nigerians subscribe to monthly

We’ve seen changes just by targeting a fraction of the market and I believe that’s the solution for any business that wants to succeed in Nigeria. Before building, know your ICP. In that audience are people who can afford your product.
