🙏🏼 Sant Guru Amar Das Ji What stays with me (and my personal favourites) • Became Guru at 73, served till 95. Leadership transcends age. Quietly the most subversive of all. In a world obsessed with youth and momentum, a 73-year-old stepped into the most consequential role of his life and then did everything below. His most impactful decades were his last ones. • Advocated for women’s dignity in 16th century India. Opposed widow immolation and purdah. Not a reformer writing pamphlets. A Guru with moral authority, using it when it was genuinely dangerous to do so. • Institutionalised langar by making it mandatory. No one met the Guru without first sitting and eating with everyone, regardless of caste or status. No exceptions. Not even for Emperor Akbar. He didn’t just feed people. He made equality the price of entry to spiritual access. • Composed 907 hymns in the Guru Granth Sahib, one of the largest contributions among the ten Gurus. A man of action who was equally a man of devotion. The inner and outer life in complete alignment. • Founded the city of Goindval Sahib. A builder in the truest sense. Institutions, cities, systems. He didn’t just lead, he created things that outlasted him.
