Something I have always wanted to do is write a book. So I did. Super proud to release my first book: Basketball Analytics 101: Methods and Tools to Effectively Incorporate Basketball Analytics For Any Team amazon.com/Basketball-Ana…

I find it extremely difficult to listen to a coach at a HS clinic who recruits kids and had a plethora of D1 players on his roster. I know he has value as a coach, but give me the guy who went 5-5 with a team that shouldn’t have won but one or two games but he COACHED.

If a coach offers offseason opportunities to help you get better and you skip them because “I’ve got other stuff going on,” don’t complain about playing time or losing to your rival.

To any coach needing to hear this, especially in the social media era - the anxiety & stress of the season is real. Don’t think because everything looks easy on social media, that there aren’t so many stresses, fears, & doubts. Try to lean on those who love and care about you🙏

When you build a team entirely around one player, but then are going to have to trade him…🤦🏻‍♂️

Parents don’t realize the damage they do by shouting instructions. Often times it is counter to what you’ve discussed as a team. Hurts all involved
Coach Craig@CoachCraigYL

@BBallImmersion Yes. We have a hard rule for our parents—no yelling instruction. They have zero idea what we’ve talked about in the huddle. If they can’t comply, they have to leave the gym. If they don’t, their child sits until the parent leaves. (We never have issues)

@_AndyFitzgerald @david_kenah Extremely! He started as just a film kid in 8th grade, and in his junior year attended all meetings and film sessions. Last season he was, “Director of Quality Control,” & evaluated film, studied opponents and own teams’ tendencies, and ran the film crew, among other things.

@david_kenah @_AndyFitzgerald My kid did this as a volunteer for our HS sophomore and varsity football teams for 5 seasons. He filmed, uploaded, and tagged all plays after Friday night games and usually had it ready for coaches by 10:00pm. Filmed practices too.

@david_kenah For sure. It’s a team effort. I’ve been there. My point was that this is just part of the job and probably something like 90% of head coaches do this.

The guy that deserves more credit is the video guy that has to put together an edit after the HC sends him his notes at 2am then put together the Maryland edit when coach gives him those notes at 8am. (But also honestly not that hard either, especially in college with only 30 games)

@itsAntWright A lot, but what’s that have to do with anything? Not saying anything other than this is just what most coaches do and having a little fun

@mjeichinger Exactly. Without the game already cut up and broken down by a video coordinator if need be 😂

So spot on. I watched a team sit their best player with 2 fouls in the first half last night for an extended period of time when they really could have used this player. The player ended the game with 3 fouls. Happens all the time.
Hoop Herald@TheHoopHerald

Kevin Young talks about his philosophy of trusting his guys with 2 fouls in the first half He doesnt auto sub and mentions a lot of studies he has read when he was in the NBA on the topic Really good stuff (Via @churchballpod 🎥)

Underrated life advice: Stop chasing people who aren’t genuinely interested in you. Friends, jobs, partners, etc. Go where you're asked questions, not just expected to give answers. Interest is effort. Effort takes energy. Energy shows respect.
