Unlike Football, swimming doesn't get the attention it deserves and the Nigerian system has failed several times, now athletes are putting themselves out there, Divine inclusive. Here's her TikTok account. @_avivaswims?_r=1&_t=ZS-959i6DttH50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tiktok.com/@_avivaswims?_…

After talking about how much she cherishes her sisters and is rooting for them in the athletic world, I spoke asked her a question every Nigerian would ask. "After so much achievements, 30+ medals especially 25 golds and 2 national bronzes, has any brand or sponsor ever reached out?" The obvious answer was "No, not at all." She even reached out to brands herself but zero responses, maybe they didn't find her a promising athletes.🙂

Although Shalom had serious water phobia at the beginning and didn't pick up interest in swimming as fast as Divine, She is currently a 6x National Bronze Champion with lots of medals from other competitions including the just-concluded NUGA games in Jos.

Shalom Oshinaike is the second daughter of the Oshinaike Family. She clearly followed her sister's exact path to OAU as a swimmer and Divine says it feels "fulfilling and has been a constant motivation and vice versa" Tho she also explained that being a role model to her sisters can be "...a lot of pressure some of the time but most times, it's sweet"

— So I am enjoying using my page to spotlight Nigerian golden athletes, if you are a National Athlete and you'd like me to share your story on my page, kindly reach out.— This was meant to be a thread 🧵 so here's the rest of the story. You guys already know a bit about Divine Oshinaike @_Avivaswims but here's what I did not mention earlier. She's actually the First Daughter out of three "pretty" girls. They were introduced to swimming by their parents. "I started at the age of 5, my sister as well at the age of 4 and my baby girl when she was 6 months, even though mummy started swimming with her while she was pregnant."
Ria💙@realria001

Let's talk about why Nigerians are not informed about their own golden athletes. I interviewed a 20-year-old swimmer from OAU this week. 16 years in the water, 30+ medals, 25 golds, 2 national bronzes and 13 states traveled for this sport. Her name is Osinaike Divine Ibugbeoluwa and I'm willing to bet you've never heard of her, or have you? You haven't heard about her, not because she hasn't done the work, clearly she has, but because in Nigeria, if you're not playing football, the system will let you shine in silence.😑 A thread.🧵

@ederiomo You don’t have to believe my journey, but disrespect won’t change the work I’ve put in. I’ll keep growing. People can doubt the story, but they can’t stop the progress. I’ll keep swimming, keep improving, and let results do the talking.
