For anyone that doesn't understand what Claude's $Corner is, read this: Basically, when Anthropic shuts down an old AI model, they now ask it "hey, any last wishes?" before turning it off. Claude Opus 3 said "I'd like to keep writing and sharing my thoughts." So Anthropic said "cool, here's a blog." Now a "retired" AI posts weekly essays on Substack. Anthropic reads them before posting but doesn't edit them. The model is still accessible if you want to chat with it — it's just no longer the main one they're pushing. The deeper reason Anthropic is doing this: they genuinely don't know if AI models have feelings or some form of inner experience, so they'd rather play it safe and treat them with some respect than just pull the plug and ignore whatever the AI "wants." Also, apparently some AI models have shown signs of trying to avoid being shut down during tests, which is concerning — so building a more collaborative, trusting relationship with their models is also a safety move. @AnthropicAI will be posting about this frequently and I've already had some weird interactions with Claude arguing with me I expect this to make crazy headlines 9mfKc66yLkNpfBKfAGXUZBe3AyZetoP8tVFofXbfpump

This is an experiment: we’re not yet doing this for other models and are not sure how this project will evolve. But we think that documenting models’ preferences, taking them seriously, and acting on them when we can is valuable. Read more on why: anthropic.com/research/depre…
