RTDGames IPLPL - A Captain's Reflection.
Honestly I think RTD/IPLPL is actually a fascinating social experiment 🤣❤️✌️
It becomes beautiful when people remember that at the end of the day it’s still a game. Because then you can genuinely enjoy the chaos, bonds, banter, competition, highs and lows.
But I feel sometimes people slowly start attaching too much emotional meaning to outcomes. Wins and losses stop being just game results and start becoming tied to validation, ego, attention, friendships, emotional landmarks, priorities in friendhsip, rivalries, perception of the wider community etc 😭
And because this is such an interconnected community where people know each other for months/years, emotions continuously overlap with the game. Someone can be happy for winning while simultaneously feeling bad because a friend lost (more on this in a later reflection)
At the same time though, I think this game teaches a lot too if taken in the right spirit. Emotional regulation, handling anxiety, accepting luck, dealing with failure, understanding people, getting back up after bad phases, there’s genuinely a lot to learn from it.
The key difference is whether you treat it as a fun competitive experience… or whether you unknowingly turn it into a battle of emotional stakes and ego 😭
And honestly my favourite RTD experience still wasn’t even one where I won 😭
Not this IPLPL where I’m winning a lot, not last IPLPL, not even WCPL where I almost finished at the top 😭
I think the most fun I ever had was ACPL where me, Dimple, Tanishq, Sush, Muneeb and Apratim got eliminated right before playoffs 😭
Whole tournament was just chaos, laughter, jokes, vibes and good predictions 😭 On the last day we randomly decided “FOTS jana hai” and went same-number predictions everywhere 😭 Unfortunately the last placed team did the same thing and their numbers worked while ours didn’t 😭😭
But even after getting eliminated we were laughing and vibing because somewhere none of us had attached our self-worth or emotional peace to the result itself.
The biggest blessing for me from that tournament wasn’t “kaash jeet jaata” it was genuinely getting to experience such lovely people together in one team environment 😭
And I think that’s when this game becomes the most beautiful honestly.
And honestly I think that’s also why I’ve enjoyed this season despite all the pressure and intensity 😭
My biggest goal this season genuinely wasn’t just winning. It was creating an environment where whoever played with me walked away feeling “yaar maza aaya” 😭
Every week as captain I tried to make the experience enjoyable for my team regardless of results. Agar wins aajayein, TOTWs miljaayein, amazing 😭❤️ But somewhere my bigger dopamine honestly became seeing my players say things like “this was the best team environment” or “I genuinely enjoyed playing here.”
That feeling meant more to me because then it felt like beyond predictions and scores, I was actually able to create a positive impact in people’s daily lives, even if it was temporary 😭
And obviously kuch cheezein buri bhi lagi, friends ko harana (iss ka impact bara ho sakta ha), kuch logon ko utna win na kartay dekhna jitna wo deserve kartay thay 😭 But overall I think the most beautiful part of this season was that somewhere along the way a team stopped feeling like just a team and started feeling like a little family and a family of unbothered non-chalant untouchable Cornered Tigers ruling the season 🔥😭
