@kriekstina I am very sorry to read this Kate, and well done for speaking out. Challenge them, anytime it occurs, regardless of the setting. Doing what’s right might make people uncomfortable but protecting others from the same going forward, those without a voice, makes it worthwhile.

I am SO SICK of senior male counsel talking to junior female counsel as though we are little girls trying to sit at the big table. It’s all good for the regulators to talk the talk about bullying at the Bar but I’m seeing VERY little actual action, and enough is enough.

Audited a few councils policies on transport to school sen arrangements and my god there’s some future JR’s. I have begun using my sports modelling methods on law and the potential is crazy.

@toyingwithfools @TheCSP2019 @BBCPolitics @Joanna__Hardy Oh dear. If things worked as governments pretended then there’d be no one to complain would there? And yet there are, barristers no less, the same government you’re quoting has lammy who previously said juries are vital is now removing them. So trustworthy.

@TheCSP2019 @BBCPolitics @Joanna__Hardy It’s solely based on target chasing by reducing numbers and has nothing to do with the victims. The alternative credible solutions lie in the governments poor contracts with people like Serco and lack of investment in the courts and processes as a whole.

@_BrettHogan @BBCPolitics @Joanna__Hardy Sad to see genuine efforts to solve the needs of victims being dismissed as target chasing. I have yet to see any alternative credible solutions that will have a positive impact for victims within a reasonable timeframe.

@tunder71 @Aintnopartylik1 @BarristerSecret The difference is by design. A magistrate is not legally qualified and for most offences (either way) the defendant gets to choose to be tried by a mag or by jury in the crown. Rape will always be tried by the crown. The crown offers many safeguards the mags don’t.

@_BrettHogan @Aintnopartylik1 @BarristerSecret Judges deciding civil law cases usually have competing parties that are different in every case. The danger of confirmation bias when the outcome can be deprivation of liberty is too great a risk. Look at the difference in conviction rates between magistrates and crown.

Imagine coming up with a proposal so stupid, so unworkable, so thoughtless, that it makes Robert Jenrick look sane by comparison.

🔺BREAKING: Jury trials to be scrapped except for alleged rapists and killers David Lammy is proposing that judges hear cases alone for crimes that could result in a sentence of up to five years to tackle court backlog #Echobox=1764077938" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thetimes.com/uk/law/article…

@Aintnopartylik1 @BarristerSecret I think jurors are more susceptible to believing their are more false allegations of rape then actually are, and other unconscious biases. Judges sit alone in family and immigration so having them sit as finders of fact and law would be no negative here.

The bbc presenter who changed ‘pregnant people’ to ‘women’ on air found by the executive complaints committee (bbc) in the wrong because 1) Her facial expression and 2) The reaction from others. Controversial or not, presenter or not, that is absurd reasoning.

@Thomasgordon01 @MartinSLewis Honestly, I had no idea the maitenance part was repayable. Massive oversight on my part! I thought they were grants still and not loans.

@KeithP_Williams @MartinSLewis I did. It’s mainly aimed at new plan 5 loans for 2023 and onwards. I don’t have that plan. I have an undergraduate loan at 9% and postgraduate at 6% plus interest so forgive me for being slightly concerned.

@_BrettHogan You won't pay "forever", it gets wiped if you haven't paid it back. The amount you pay is in effect an extra 9% tax on your earnings, if you earn a low salary, you pay back less or not at all.

Digital ID being utilised to tackle illegal workers is laughable. I haven’t seen a government this bad since Blair took us to war and Brown sold the gold. Surely in danger of being ousted by his own now though albeit not the labour way.
