John Thompson

GEORGE FELTON George Felton was born December 28, 1952 in the Bronx, New York, and attended All Hallows High School. He was an All-Star CHSAA basketball player in a tough Catholic School leaguge that was delivering top NYC players to top basketball schools around the country. Felton chose South Carolina where he only played a single season from 1973 - 1974. (?) Felton began coaching as an assistant under Bobby Cremins, another Bronx connection at Appalachian State from 1976 to 1981. He accompanied Cremins to the Georgia Tech in 1981 until he was hired by his alma mater as head coach of South Carolina 1986 to 1991. He led the team to a 87–62 record in 5 seasons until he was released in May 1991. He joined head coach Brian Mahoney at St. John's for three seasonsand then hired as an assistant with Oregon State in 1995. He joined coach Tubby Smith, at Kentucky in 1997 and won a national championship there in 1998. After leaving the coaching ranks and pro scouting, he became involved with an organization called "Peace Players" The international organization was also part of the Friendship games a few years agowhich takes place in Cyprus, South Africa, Northern Ireland, and the Middle East. Focused on teenagers from many different cultures, using the game of basketball to promote peace and harmony in some of the world's most difficult places! Mr. Felton currently lives on Pawley's Island, South Carolina, but I'm sure he hasn't ever traded in his Bronx accent for a Southern drawl. Congratulations on a great career!
