Today I rose in the house for the first time on behalf of my community. Union workers have their voice in Parliament and I will fight tooth and nail so that all hardworking Canadians get the respect they deserve. I am and will always be One of Us, Working for All of Us.

This evening, with support from the Bloc Quebecois, the Liberals passed Bill C-9. Despite fierce opposition from the Conservatives, the Liberals moved forward with their bill to restrict religious freedoms. Over the past month, I have heard from hundreds of members of our community who called, emailed, and wrote letters to me in opposition to this bill. This bill is bad legislation, and I am disappointed to see the Liberals team up with the Bloc to push it through Parliament. I stand with the hundreds of folks from Elmwood-Transcona who passionately advocate for their religious freedoms, and I will continue to stand in opposition to Bill C-9.

Invited representatives Unifor for some important and positive discussion. We discussed many challenges facing Canadian workers including tariffs, Artificial Intelligence and anti-worker government policies like Section 107. I value each and every opportunity to hear from those representing the workers on the ground. All of my work will continue to be guided by a worker-first and team Canada approach.

Thrilled to join my friends at Peak of the Market this past week and help support their amazing work. It was great to get hands on and take a peek behind the curtain on the good work they are doing each and every day. During times of economic uncertainty and rising grocery costs, I am proud to do my part and support locally-sourced sustainable produce!

I was delighted to meet with leaders from CUPE last week in Ottawa, to discuss the urgent issues facing the public service in Canada. We must ensure Canada has an effective and efficient public service that respects those that serve our community. I will continue to work with all my colleagues to stand up for good paying union jobs and to support Canadian workers during these tumultuous times.

Last week, I toured the CN Training Centre here in Elmwood-Transcona, where hundreds of hard working tradespeople start their careers. It was great to be able to see the excellent and innovative work that CN is doing to promote trades education here in Winnipeg. Ensuring these centres continue to be supported by Ottawa is a top priority of mine. A strong Canadian economy depends on strong union workers.

I was privileged to be able to stand in the House of Commons this week to recognize a true champion of the Elmwood-Transcona community, Peter Martin, a tireless advocate for veterans and fallen heroes. Peter, on behalf of all of Elmwood-Transcona and the rest of Canada, thank you deeply for all you do for our community and to honour those who have served our country in uniform.

There is zero chance that Canada will ever become part of the United States. But neither will we replace our relationship with the American people, our closest neighbour and biggest customer, with a New World Order led by Beijing.

Ensuring apprentices have quick access to EI and other government support while between jobs is essential in the retention and recruitment of new skilled trades workers. The government should look to make the temporary changes removing wait periods for EI for apprentices permanent, so we can ensure that stability is present going into the future.

Apprenticeship grants significantly help with retention among first and second year apprentices, helping them get by and make ends meet while they learn the trades. As these grants get clawed back, I stressed the importance of ensuring young tradespeople are given the support they need during training so we can retain good skilled trades workers to build our country up.

During this time of economic uncertainty, we must stand up for workers and reinforce our digital sovereignty. We must also ensure that Canadian's digital privacy is protected from threats abroad. I was delighted to speak with the Canadian Telecommunications Workers Alliance about how we can strengthen protections for workers in our telecommunications industry and protect our digital sovereignty.

In committee, I asked the government why some apprentice supports, such as the Apprenticeship Completion Grant and the Incentive Grant for Women, was not present in Budget 2025. These grants helped with retention among skilled trades apprentices, and provided a significant boost to me when I went through my apprenticeship 18 years ago. I am hopeful the government will find an appropriate replacement for these grants, to ensure we have enough skilled trade workers to build up our country.

Canada desperately needs to get housing built. When putting together an action plan, we must hear directly from the builders on what they need from us. I was very grateful to chat with the folks at the Canadian Home Builders' Association in Ottawa this week to discuss how we can get more homes built, quickly, and make home ownership more affordable for everyone.

Devastated to hear of the many innocent people murdered and injured in a senseless act of violence at a local high school in Tumbler Ridge. Our prayers are with the families, students, teachers, first responders, and the entire community grieving this profound loss.

We worked alongside the government to pass Bill C-5, giving the Prime Minister the ability to get major projects built quickly. We also helped fast track Bill C-19, to give hardworking Canadians much-needed GST relief. Despite this, there has been no urgency from the government to get projects built. Now, they accuse us of "obstruction.” We have and will always be working in the interests of all Canadians. In the spirit of collaboration, I asked the Liberals to work with us and improve the lives of all Canadians by passing the Canadian Sovereignty Act. Listen to their reply:

At a time of rising anxieties in Canada’s auto care industry, I took the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada, to hear directly from industry experts how we as Parliamentarians can help move the auto care industry forward and show our commitment to Canadian auto workers and businesses. Canada‘s auto care sector is an important part of our economy, and they need our support during these uncertain times.
