Let’s talk about 3B now that Triolo is off the IL Nick Gonzales: In my opinion he has earned a spot on the roster and Kelly should be working him into the lineup as often as possible. He leads the team in batting average, has a 1.1 WAR after a month, and has been an absolute demon with RISP. There is some recency bias with this as well, posting a .981 OPS over the past 2 weeks. The fear is obviously that he will just fall off; while I wouldn’t say the old Nick is *bad* per se, he’d be one of the weaker players on the roster and in the lineup. Regardless as long as he stays hitting, and doesn’t turn into a liability on the hot corner, I think the job should be his Jared Triolo: I feel for the guy. He’s very beleaguered by the fan base, and we are really only having this debate because he got injured; before then he was the starting 3B. The advantage to Triolo is clear: positional versatility and strong defense. The downside? To be generous, his bat is mediocre. I see him as the utility guy on this team, comes in if Nick or Konnor get hurt, or Lowe can’t face a lefty, or really anything. I think having him in the roster is fine but starting role doesn’t feel right Nick Yorke: honestly a shame to see him go down but I get it. Despite some clutch showings he has struggled as of late. He has an OPS of .429 over the last 15 days which just doesn’t cut it, and with Triolo back his versatility doesn’t have the same usefulness as before. Even if he stayed up I just don’t see a path for him to get playing time and I think he has more developing to do which should be done in Indy. That said I love the guy, think he has a lot of promise and I hope he makes his way back to Pittsburgh sooner rather than later How do yall feel about the 3B situation?
