It's annoying having a different sort of VRC event lighting implementation and thus having to make a whole fucking map just to have a conversation about it and be asked to make a completely different map after when we could have just skipped that first map! I will scream.

I don't DJ. It forces me to communicate with folks about their intent and what they want to do. I also don't have time for it. That aside, I once asked a DJ partner what the most generic basic controller I should base mine on since I thought mimicking its layout is silly.
