This Monday marked the second anniversary of the @DeFiKingdoms Subnet 👏👏 The fantasy RPG with charming pixel art will always have its place in history as the first public Avalanche Subnet. To mark the occasion, we caught up with @BolonSoron_DFK from the DFK team 👇 For those who haven’t played, what is DeFi Kingdoms? DeFi Kingdoms is a gamified DeFi protocol with an RPG being built on top of it. Players can stake, trade, and play all in one place in a fully tokenized economy, fighting monsters and soon fighting each other! As this is the 2 year anniversary of launch, tell us about the DeFi Kingdoms Subnet. Why did DFK choose Avalanche, specifically a Subnet, to expand the game to? DeFi Kingdoms was envisioned and designed as a cross-chain game. As we looked at our first expansion, we were intrigued by Subnets. The ability to build a network customized for our needs and using our own token as gas was very appealing, especially given the size and volume of transactions we see. The Ava Labs team is excellent to work with and really brings a partnership approach to their relationships, which is exactly what we were looking for. Between the team and the technology, it was a clear win to build a realm on a Subnet. The DFK Subnet has been very active since the beginning. How has the Subnet handled that volume? DFKChain has seen nearly 650M transactions since its inception, including up to 4M in one day. On an average day, DFKChain actually has more gas used on it than any two L1 chains combined. These transactions are made up of gameplay and trading activity. We have over 300K Heroes (our primary NFT) interacting with the chain doing quests and combat every day. Through all of this, the chain has remained strong and stable, showing just how much activity a Subnet can handle. How do everyday players interact with the Subnet? Do they even notice? Our players interact with the subnet frequently! We are a game that is built, first and foremost, on the chain. Questing, for example, which is sending Heroes to gather materials, is done entirely on chain. Our combat system is a hybrid on/off chain approach, but still requires initiation and completion on the chain. With the release of Teleporter, what excites you most about Subnet interoperability? What would be your dream crossover for DFK? Teleporter is another step toward Subnets co-existing as if they were all directly on one chain. We are big believers in partnership and working together, and that the web3 gaming space can only grow through cooperation. Teleporter enables easier collaboration between Subnets and their projects, opening a lot of fun and exciting opportunities. A really fun potential crossover would be with Shrapnel, because the games are so different, with DeFi Kingdoms being a pixel art world RPG and Shrapnel being a realistic-image first person shooter, to bring each game's players a very different experience! What’s next for DeFi Kingdoms and the Subnet? DeFi Kingdoms has evolved a lot over the past two years, and one of the most exciting developments has been the introduction of our combat system. That remains our primary focus, building out additional pieces and experiences within it, including Player vs Player combat, which is one of our top priorities currently. Outside of combat, we are also working on our Expeditions feature, which will allow players to more passively play DeFi Kingdoms, opening the door to players who may not have the time to interact directly with the platform on a daily basis. 🙏 A huge thank you to @DeFiKingdoms for taking the time to speak with us.
