@ES_News_ @dorsetpolice @DorsetPoliceFed This is the kind of brave conduct that 30 or 40 years ago would've been written-up for a medal. I fail to understand why forces don't.

No Backup No Kit No Hesitation
@dorsetpolice @DorsetPoliceFed PC Demar Rowe proves what courage looks like when the cameras aren’t rolling
This is a story you won’t see on the front pages. No controversy. No outrage. Just raw, human bravery from a man who stepped up when most would step back.
PC Demar Rowe was off duty, unarmed, and on his way to work when he spotted someone lying in the road in Ferndown. At first glance, it looked like a member of the public in distress. Demar did what good coppers do without thinking; he stopped to help.
Within moments, everything changed. The man pulled out a large electric saw, switched it on, and started swinging it. First at PC Rowe. Then at himself.
No stab vest. No handcuffs. No Taser. No CS. No colleagues. Just instinct.
And this is where something remarkable happened. PC Rowe noticed a decorator’s sheet in the man’s car, used it to distract him, then managed to wrestle the live saw from his hands and put him into a bear-hug restraint. He held him like that for nearly twenty minutes. Alone. While the man thrashed and fought.
Twenty minutes is an eternity in a situation like that. No guarantee of help. No knowing if the saw would come back into play. Just holding on with everything he had to stop anyone getting hurt.
When the sirens finally came, Demar didn’t just feel relief, he felt emptied. Spent. He later said he had nothing left in the tank. And if you’ve ever served in the emergency services, you’ll know exactly what that feels like. That flood of sound coming from your colleagues sirens that means you’re not alone anymore. That someone else is coming.
PC Rowe protected the public. He protected the man. He showed not just bravery, but something deeper; an unshakable commitment to do the right thing, no matter the risk.
You won’t read this in the tabloids. But we’ll keep telling these stories, because they matter.

@watkinson_gaz City of London police? Maybe medals out for the Lord Mayor's show, one post-War year...

@west_response @Stefi1774 IOPC effectively don't have the ability in law to NFA it because the legal threshold under which they *must* take it to a hearing is so low. To a large extent their hands are tied. Needs a legislative change.

In England and Wales, it is a common law offence to refuse to assist a police officer who is making an arrest and is being assaulted or obstructed, who is witnessing a breach of the peace or who reasonably asks for your assistance. #BackTheBlue

@SevenSixTwoNATO @sherlock_comms His acting was great, and the detail around policework was good too. Had the potential to be a really gritty insight into the stresses and strains of modern policing.
