This is a Vigil filled with light, the oldest in the Christian tradition, known as the “mother of all vigils.” In it we relive the victory of the Lord of life over death and the underworld. #Easter

Before filming The Passion of the Christ, Mel Gibson asked Jim Caviezel: “you still want to play..Jesus? If you do this, you may never work in this town again.” Then it hit him. “My initials are J.C., and I’m 33 years old.” Gibson replied, “God, you’re freaking me out.”

Did you know that miracles happened during filming of the Passion of the Christ? Mel Gibson, a giant of the screen, made a choice that would cost him everything. He poured in $30 million of his own fortune, built his own production company, and shouldered the cross himself. He knew this would be no ordinary film. This would be war. When it came time to cast Christ, Mel called Jim Caviezel, a faithful Catholic actor. But before the offer was made, he warned him: >“If you do this, you will be rejected by Hollywood.” Jim went silent. He took a day to pray. Then came the call: >“We have to make it. I’m 33 years old. My initials are J.C.” Mel paused, then answered: >“You’re scaring me.” And hung up. Then came the shoot and it was unlike anything Hollywood had ever seen. Jim Caviezel stepped into the role of Christ and walked a path not just of acting, but of suffering. > He lost 45 pounds. > Was struck by lightning not once, but twice. One of the lightning strikes hit him during the Sermon on the Mount scene, while cameras were rolling. A bright flash, an explosion of divine silence, and Caviezel stood stunned, unharmed, as the sky thundered. > He was accidentally whipped during scourging scenes, leaving him with a 14-inch scar, real blood spilled for a film about divine blood. > His shoulder dislocated while carrying the Cross. > He hung exposed in freezing conditions, battling pneumonia and hypothermia. > Filming the crucifixion alone took 5 weeks of agony. > After filming, the toll on his heart was so severe, he underwent two open-heart surgeries the scars of Gethsemane etched in flesh. And yet, through it all, Jim’s aim was clear: > “I didn’t want people to see me. I wanted them to see Jesus. Conversions will happen through that.” And they did. In numbers that stunned the world. Pedro Sarubbi, who played Barabbas, said of Caviezel’s eyes during filming: > “They had no hatred, only mercy and love.” Pedro converted to Christianity. Luca Lionello, the actor who portrayed Judas, an atheist, was baptized after filming. He baptized his own children with him. A Muslim technician watched the filming in awe, and gave his life to Christ on set. And then came the wave. Audiences around the world wept in theaters. Families returned to the faith. Hearts of stone became flesh. Confessions surged. Conversions multiplied. From prison cells to palaces, from pews to film sets, lives changed. The world said it would fail. But God had other plans. The Passion of the Christ grossed $611 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. But more than that, it became a weapon of grace. It brought Christ’s suffering into a world drowning in comfort. It pierced through indifference. It reminded mankind that Love bleeds, suffers, and dies to save.

🇵🇱✝️ 21 years ago, John Paul II passed away, a figure whose influence extended far beyond religion and helped reshape European history. He became one of the key figures of the 20th century, playing a vital role in the fall of Poland’s communist regime. His impact is recognized even by those outside of Catholicism: the Pope’s moral authority and his support for society became a powerful force that weakened the system from within. The election of Polish cardinal Karol Wojtyła to the Holy See in 1978 shocked the Soviet Union and the entire socialist bloc. In Moscow, there was a longstanding concern about Polish Catholicism and its influence on society, while communist authorities in Warsaw repeatedly sought to limit the Church’s role. His visits to Poland were especially significant. His first trip in 1979 proved to be a turning point: millions took to the streets, and his words “Do not be afraid” sounded like a political signal. These visits strengthened society and catalyzed the rise of the Solidarity movement. On April 2, 2005, the day he died, Poland essentially stopped. Thousands gathered in streets, squares, and churches across the country. In Warsaw, Kraków, and other cities, people held spontaneous vigils, lit candles, and stood in silence. Television broadcasts were interrupted, streets emptied, and the nation experienced a rare moment of unity. His influence was not only political or religious, but it was deeply personal for millions. His legacy encompasses not only faith but also freedom, dignity, and resistance to oppression.

As true God and true man, Christ offers us the example of self-giving, service, and love. We need His example to learn how to love, not because we are incapable of it, but precisely to teach ourselves and one another what true love is. Learning to act like Jesus, who is the living sign that God has placed within the history of the world, is the work of a lifetime. #HolyThursday

Jesus purifies not only our image of God from the idolatry and blasphemy that have distorted it, but also our image of humanity. For we tend to consider ourselves powerful when we dominate, victorious when we destroy our equals, great when we are feared. #HolyThursday vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

Today is Holy Thursday, the day the Passion of the Christ begins. After washing the feet of His disciples and offering His own Body and Blood at the Last Supper, Christ retreats to the Garden of Gethsemane. He knows exactly what is coming. The scourging, the thorns, the agonizing weight of the cross. The burden of every sin in human history crushes down on Him until He sweats drops of blood into the dirt. Before a single Roman soldier laid a hand on Him, the sheer psychological and spiritual terror of what He was about to absorb crushed Him so violently that His capillaries burst, bleeding through His pores into the soil. Friday was the physical execution, but Thursday night was the ultimate battle of the Will. This is the exact moment He looked into the terrifying abyss, accepted the cup of God's wrath, and said: "Not my will, but Yours be done." He didn't wait to be captured. He fought and won the war in His own soul before the enemy even marched up the mountain. In His darkest hour of dread, He looks to His closest companions for support. He finds them fast asleep. Their comfort won over their loyalty. Shortly after, the heavy silence of the garden is shattered by the arrival of the mob, the glow of torches, the drawing of swords, and the ultimate betrayal sealed with a kiss from a friend. Tonight, the altars are stripped completely bare. The tabernacles are left open and empty. The Church descends into mourning. The modern world continues to trade Him for silver, mock Him for cheap applause, and sleep soundly through the spiritual war. Do not be like the sleeping Apostles. The Passion has begun. Hold the line.

The cross is part of the mission. The imperialist occupation of the world is disrupted from within; the violence that until now has been the law is unmasked. The poor, imprisoned, and rejected Messiah descends into the darkness of death, yet in so doing He brings a new creation to light. #HolyThursday

The French President Just Reminded The World What Class Looks Like Donald Trump stood in front of a camera and did what Donald Trump does. He mocked Emmanuel Macron’s wife. He put on a fake French accent. He told the world that Brigitte Macron “treats him extremely badly” and that the French president was “still recovering from a right hook to the jaw.” It was the geopolitical equivalent of a man shouting at clouds. Macron was in South Korea when someone asked him about it. He paused. He considered the question with the expression of a man who has just been informed that a golden retriever has urinated on his Bentley. Then he said this: “Neither elegant nor up to standard.” Seven words. That was it. Seven words delivered with the quiet, devastating calm of someone who genuinely does not need to raise their voice because the staff will handle it. It was the verbal equivalent of a single raised eyebrow from a man in a perfectly fitted suit, looking down at someone who has just spilled red wine on the carpet at Versailles. Consider the man on the other end of that eyebrow. A man who wears a red baseball cap to diplomatic meetings and a white one to funerals. A man who arrives at the most solemn occasions in the world looking like he has just wandered in from a golf buggy. A man whose morning routine apparently involves industrial quantities of spray tan applied to a face that has, at various medical estimations, the cardiovascular profile of a blocked Manhattan sewer. A man whose idea of a state dinner is a quarter pounder eaten alone in a motorcade. This is the man who decided to lecture the world about Emmanuel Macron’s marriage. Trump called NATO a “paper tiger.” He mocked a head of state’s wife. He uploaded the whole embarrassing performance to the White House YouTube channel, briefly, before someone in the building apparently remembered that diplomacy exists and pulled the plug. Macron’s response landed like a white glove placed gently on a table. Not thrown. Placed. “Neither elegant nor up to standard.” In French diplomatic circles, that sentence is a declaration of war. In English, it translates roughly to: I have noticed your behavior, and I find it beneath comment, which is why I am commenting on it once, quietly, before returning to matters of actual importance. There is a man in this story who has spent eighty years on this earth and still cannot find a suit that fits, a tie that stops at his belt, or a shade of foundation that occurs anywhere in nature. And there is a man who responded to being publicly humiliated by the most powerful person on earth with seven words and a expression that could freeze the Seine. Macron has something Trump has spent his entire life trying to purchase and never quite managed. Class. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1
