Hey #Dunkindonuts my physics student designed a Dunkin themed roller coaster for her physics project. Check it out!

When the rubber band is stretched far the acceleration is high enough for rolling objects to move up. As the acceleration decreases the object rolls down. For sliding objects the increased normal force causes more friction and no sliding occurs until it decelerates.

@howie_hua Mentally, I would instantly know it was 46 because those numbers are the current year and my birth year! Lol

@cossettej Cool! Do you have schematics or build tutorial for the launcher?

Crowdsourcing ideas. This summer I get to teach a three-week, three-hour-a-day course about *whatever sciencey thing I want* to gifted students who just completed 10th grade. What would you teach? #iteachphysics

@johannabrown The love songs of web Dubois is a pretty interesting listen. Voice actors are really good.

Diver Kendall Roberg built a rig with marker caps attached to his GoPro to show how colors change as you go deeper underwater, because water selectively scatters and absorbs certain wavelengths of visible light [video: buff.ly/2SdfUq5] [more: buff.ly/2n7iODf]

Brazilian frogs which have evolved to be very tiny, have inner ear canals too small to help them balance well: this is why they are clumsy jumpers [full paper: buff.ly/3RUyZMU]

@fnoschese Get better quick! Also, this will eventually make its way into a physics problem!

Taking a break due to a possible concussion. (Fainted at home after donating blood and hit my head on the floor. CAT scan and EKG are thankfully normal.) So if I don’t respond right away that’s why. Gotta rest up before school starts!

@MrEastonPhysics Consider the case where the wind velocity is close to the plane's velocity. As a headwind, the ground speed falls to nearly 0 so it takes a near infinite amount of time to return. (Assume unlimited fuel of course!) So it take longer with the wind. What's another way to explain?

@mrmalvikscience I do a similar 1st day but the goal is "to build a tower" and the score is calculated 100/(H-M) where H is rounded to the nearest cm. Students automatically try to build tge tallest structure and then reevaluate once they start making measurements.

1st day challenge. 5 pieces of paper and 8 paper clips. Marbles/ball bearings. Build the highest tower possible that can hold the most mass. H measured to the bottom of the lowest marble in cm. Score = H^2 + 2M. Highest score held 3 grams and was 125cm. #iteachphysics

Here's my favorite warm up #physics question that I used in #ClassicalMechanics. If I pull forward on the bottom of a bike wheel, which way will it accelerate? What's your answer?

@rjallain Rhett, I always love your stuff but in this case, I don't 100% agree with your explanation. I think in the fbd, the Ff should be equal to the T in your bungee and the reason it rotates is because the net torque on the wheel is counter clockwise.

@MrJoeMilliano @howie_hua I could be wrong but my thinking is that the numbers seem to double as you go down each column. So that means they half as you go up the column. So 1000, 500, 250, 125. So maybe the row that starts with 125, the 4th number down?
