I’m stepping into a headship in September. The internal deputy applied too, didn’t get it, and it’s gone down badly. I want this to work, but the resistance is already showing.
If you were appointed from outside:
- How did you handle the fallout in those first weeks and months?
- What genuinely rebuilt trust (and what backfired)?
- What traps should I avoid when I need to lead decisively without coming across as tone-deaf?

I’ve been through the first set of new Ofsted framework Primary school reports. Makes for very interesting reading. I’ve done some summarising and bits based on all of them as a whole. Key similarities, common strengths/weaknesses etc. Let me know if you’d like a copy.

@DeputyGrocott I've just upgraded my Garmin to a Forerunner 165... really pleased with it. Not as £££ as an Apple watch, battery lasts several days (possibly a week) even when used daily for GPS activity recording, can play music & send pre-set replies to messages. Health & fitness stats good.
