143 millions de personnes pensaient simplement attraper des Pokémon. En réalité, elles étaient en train d'alimenter l’un des plus grandes base de données du monde réel de l’histoire. Niantic vient de révéler que les photos et vidéos collectés via Pokémon Go ont produit un dataset de plus de 30 milliards d’images du monde réel. L’entreprise utilise aujourd’hui ces données pour entraîner des systèmes d’IA capables de se repérer visuellement dans l’espace, notamment pour la navigation de robots de livraison. Les joueurs ne faisaient pas que marcher avec leur téléphone. Ils ont scanné des monuments, des vitrines, des parcs et des trottoirs sous tous les angles, à toutes les heures de la journée, dans des conditions de lumière et de météo qu’aucune campagne de photographie organisée n’aurait pu reproduire. Ces scans ont permis à Niantic de construire une compréhension 3D extrêmement détaillée de lieux réels créant ainsi une carte numérique du monde physique que les intelligences artificielles peuvent parcourir. Google avait compris ce principe dix ans plus tôt avec les CAPTCHA. Les fameux “cliquez sur tous les feux de circulation” ne servaient pas uniquement à prouver que vous étiez humain. Ils servaient surtout à collecter des données d’entraînement pour la vision par ordinateur utilisée dans Google Street View, Google Maps et les projets de véhicules autonomes. Niantic a appliqué exactement la même stratégie avec Pokémon Go, chaque chaque prise de Dracaufeu était en réalité une tâche de cartographie déguisée en jeu. Aujourd’hui, Niantic Spatial licence cette technologie de positionnement visuel ultra-précis à Coco Robotics pour permettre à ses robots de livraison de naviguer dans les rues. Lorsque la caméra d’un robot voit un bâtiment, Niantic possède déjà des milliers d’images de ce bâtiment, prises sous presque tous les angles possibles et associées à des coordonnées d’une précision centimétrique, qui n'aurait pas été possible avec des données GPS.

@MyLovelyPlanet1 The latest My Lovely Planet update and its so-called “Tree Experience” are a real letdown. Great eco concept on paper, but in-game it feels mostly cosmetic and marketing-driven — no real gameplay depth, persistent bugs, and no meaningful added value

@MyLovelyPlanet1 The Pink Diamond race feels pointless now. There’s no way to upgrade, no real gameplay evolution, and no updates in sight. Communication is almost nonexistent, and the token — which was supposed to be central to the ecosystem — seems to have been completely sidelined.
