$23 billion – an average of about $264 per person, or the equivalent of roughly 1 per cent of what the world spends on defense – is what is needed to provide life-saving assistance to those most in need in 2026. unocha.org/87-million-liv…

@PJDunleavy I wonder why Academics have not written to their pension fund USS about the issue, or perhaps they have done it privately without getting a response?

UN experts concerned that flawed ‘Epstein Files’ disclosures undermine accountability for crimes against women & girls. The files have shocked the conscience of humanity and raised terrifying implications of the level of impunity for such crimes. ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

@natalieben Worrying: "Skinner said epigenetic disease inheritance could help explain the rising rates of chronic disease in humans, an increase that paralleled the rising use of pesticides, fungicides and other environmental chemicals in agriculture and other industries."

Article notes while political uncertainty has increased, the #science on climate risks remains #robust. The author notes that increased due diligence on environment & social issues makes this "critical for larger businesses to prioritise and strategise in 2026".

@RoyalMail is there any way to report a lost parcel that went by Tracked Delivery, other than by phoning up and having a 40 minute call wait time?

Govt suppressed this horrifying report last year, sneaking it out now while attention elsewhere, no doubt hoping to bury dire implications of likely ecosystem collapse. Ministers must urgently step up, change direction & restore vital life support systems theguardian.com/environment/20…

An across-government technical assessment published today recognises that "nature is the foundation of national security" and that "every critical ecosystem is on a pathway to collapse". A rational response to this would be to get very serious about nature recovery. gov.uk/government/pub…

Emmanuel Macron

We did it. Today, the High Seas Treaty enters into force. It is a tremendous victory for the oceans, for life, for humanity. The high seas will no longer be a Wild West open to predation: they are becoming a space of shared responsibility. From 8 countries in 2024, to 60 States committed in 2025 at the Nice Ocean Summit, to 83 today, the community of nations has kept its word. Together, we are giving ourselves the means to protect 30% of seas and oceans by 2030—more than half of our planet’s total surface. This is the result of an exceptional collective mobilization led by negotiators, scientists, and citizens, all convinced that the future is built together. I want to thank them. It is the choice of responsibility over indifference, cooperation over isolation, the honor of humanity over the disorder of the world. When we come together around what truly matters, we prove that progress is possible. So let us continue. Together. Exceptional photo by @thom_astro.
