JUST IN: A Dumaguete-Manila flight of Philippine Airlines (PAL) made an emergency landing at Iloilo International Airport around 4:30 pm on Sunday, April 19. "Reports indicate that the oxygen supply in the cabin was insufficient after the aircraft reached its cruising altitude of 32,000 feet," the airport's official page announced. A Filipino passenger traveling on a domestic flight was arrested on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by the PNP-Aviation Security Group at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. The arrest followed the detection of suspicious images in the passenger’s backpack by a Security Screening Officer (SSO) from the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) manning the X-ray machine at the final security checkpoint. During a bag inspection conducted in the passenger’s presence, authorities discovered a disposable vape cartridge containing illegal substances, identified using a portable spectrometer. Subsequent confirmatory testing by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) revealed that the cartridge contained suspected marijuana oil (cannabidiol). Approximately 5 milliliters of the suspected marijuana oil, concealed inside the vape cartridge and valued at around P300,000, were confiscated. The suspect was immediately arrested, informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understood, and the seized items were properly documented, marked, and inventoried in the presence of mandatory witnesses. Both the suspect and the confiscated items were turned over to PDEA for appropriate legal action under Republic Act 9165. Authorities emphasized that strict security measures remain in place at airports to ensure passenger safety and prevent violations of Republic Act 9165, including the transport of illegal drugs, even for personal use. | via Rudy Santos
