For decades, nobody pushed for federal regulation while athletes generated billions without compensation. The urgency to "save college sports" only arrived once players started seeing some of the money, and that framing tells you a lot.
Mit Winter@WinterSportsLaw

As @JayBilas correctly points out, there’s a lot of hypocrisy in college athletics right now. It’s only when athletes begin to get paid that it’s necessary to have a federal law to “save college sports.”

Built a multi billion dollar industry on unpaid labor (college athletes). Now paying them is unsustainable? That is not a system problem, that is accountability. It’s not about economics it’s about control. The only thing unsustainable is a model built on uncompensated labor.

College athletes don’t need to be limited to 1 transfer and 1 transfer only…. Just make whatever contract they sign 100% enforceable. 1, 2, 3, 4 year deal. Whatever it is when they put pen to paper.

I am incredibly honored to share that I have been nominated for the @MetBasketballW Jim O'Connell Award scholarship by @MaristAthletics for the second straight season! This recognition means the world to me, and I am deeply grateful to Mike Ferraro and everyone in Marist Athletics for this nomination. Jim O'Connell's legacy in the Tri-State area's sports media coverage is everlasting, and to even be considered in his name is truly humbling. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my journey at Marist, professors, mentors, and peers alike. I am passionate about broadcasting, entertainment, and research in the world of sport, and I look forward to continuing to grow in this industry. Excited for what's ahead! 🎙️

Hey NCAA, us more about players that don’t show “loyalty,” don’t want to go through “adversity” and how player movement impacts stability. Tell us more about “tampering” and “poaching.” The Coaches Portal is ALWAYS open. Funny how silent coaches and administrators are about that.

If it’s so bad, why does college football and basketball continue to set ratings records and attendance? Why is the “bad” part athletes getting paid for their work? It’s pretty simple: The NCAA needs to stop crying to lawmakers and create a collective bargaining agreement with the players. If you do that, you will get structure. If they continue to try to work around the players, they will continue to get their asses handed to them in court.

@jemelehill If u don’t accept that freedom to move every year for the bigger dollars has screwed college athletics - ur more ignorant than I thought

Bam Adebayo was seen pleading to him teammates not to foul when he already had 79 points. “Don’t foul!” (h/t @CourtsideBuzzX)

Colin Cowherd on the criticism Bam is receiving for scoring 83 points: “Bam Adebayo scored 83 points last night. Everybody is attacking him. This is what we do in America. The minute there’s success we have to tear everybody down. 83 is 83. He’s an excellent basketball player. When Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points his team was fouling the Knicks to get extra possessions. When Kobe scored 81 against an awful Raptors team, the Lakers led by 15 with 4:30 left and Kobe scored another 11. Bam had 31 in the 1st! 62 after 3 quarters! It was totally legitimate! Every star in this league has had the chance to play the Wizards and they don’t score 83!” (Via @TheHerd)
