🎓✨ It’s official – I am now a Ph.D. 🎓✨ After years of research, fieldwork, and writing, I successfully defended my dissertation on predator recognition in birds. I couldn’t have done this without the support of my colleagues, friends, family and birds. Thank you! 🦅🙏

Wir haben gewonnen - Neukölln strikes back! Gemeinsam haben wir das Unmögliche möglich gemacht: Ferat Koçak hat in Neukölln das erste Direktmandat für Die Linke im Westen gewonnen. Zusammen mit über 1.000 Aktiven haben wir den Neuköllner*innen zugehört und nichts versprochen - außer dass wir Politik anders machen werden. Wir haben gezeigt das es möglich ist, zu gewinnen. xyz Prozent für einen linken Kandidaten! Und jetzt gehts erst richtig los. Wir kämpfen auch im Bundestag für die hart arbeitenden Neuköllner und Neuköllnerinnen. Dazu werde ich mein Gehalt deckeln und in Neukölln Sozialsprechstunden anbieten. Wir haben keinen Wahlkampf gemacht, wir haben eine Bewegung aufgebaut. Und deswegen werden wir auch in den nächsten Monaten an die Haustüren gehen. Denn echte Veränderung gelingt nicht, in dem wir alle vier Jahre ein Kreuz machen, sondern in dem wir im Alltag der Menschen einen Unterschied machen. Aber: die CDU ist stärkste Kraft geworden, direkt dahinter die AFD. Zwei Parteien die nichts für die Armen und Arbeitenden in diesem Land machen wird, aber Menschen wie mich abschieben möchten. Das ist eine Katastrophe, es wird nicht so weiterlaufen wie bisher, nein, es wird schlimmer werden. Die Konservativen und Rechten wissen, dass sie in der Linken ihren stärksten Gegner haben. Es muss Schluss sein mit dem Ablenkungsdebatten über Migration. Wir legen uns mit den Reichen an und treten nicht nach Unten. Holen wir uns das Geld zurück von den Milliardären und investieren es so, dass es für die Mehrheit der Menschen hier in diesem Land endlich wieder aufwärts geht. Ich verspreche euch: Ich bleibe unverkäuflich. Ihr werdet mich weiter auf Streiks und Demonstration treffen. Und ich werde immer an der Seite der Menschen in Neukölln stehen. Und ich habe ein Versprechen gegeben: Immer an eurer Seite zu kämpfen und dieses Versprechen werde ich im Bundestag einlösen. Das ist unser aller Direktmandat. Für alle Menschen in Neukölln und darüber hinaus, die sich ehrliche und aufrichtige Politik wünschen. Alle zusammen gegen den Faschismus!

New paper out! @LeibnizIGB and @scioi_cluster scientists have discovered that when striped marlin hunt groups of small fish, the faster the escape the more the marlin get to eat!

Since the sailfish help the birds, but not the other way around, the relationship between these two marine predators is most likely commensal or even klepto-parasitic.

Using drone footage we analysed the effects of attacks on the cohesion of the prey school. And found that seabirds tend to time their attacks to fall into periods of reduced cohesion after sailfish attacks.

Very excited that my first lead author paper is out now! We found that seabirds benefit by hunting with sailfish. As the sailfish break down the cohesion of the prey group with their attacks, presumably making catching fish easier for the birds! royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
