🇩🇰 William Osula: An Apology
Football has a funny way of making you look foolish. As fans, we are often guilty of the 'knee-jerk.' We see a signing, we look at a stat sheet, we watch a twenty-minute cameo, and we decide. We stamp a verdict on a player before they’ve even had time to find a house in Newcastle.
When William Osula arrived from Sheffield United, the collective reaction from a large section of the Toon Army—this writer included—was a resounding, “Eh?”
With all due respect to the lad, he wasn’t the marquee, statement signing we were craving. He was a young striker who had found goals hard to come by in a struggling Blades side. The fee felt steep, the logic felt muddled, and the skepticism was palpable. We wanted a proven, elite striker, not a project.
Today, it’s time to eat a massive slice of humble pie. William, I owe you an apology, others too.
What we all failed to see—and what Eddie Howe and the scouting team clearly did—was the raw, unpolished engine waiting to be tuned.
Osula didn't arrive as the finished article, and he didn’t expect to walk into the starting XI. But football moves fast. Injuries hit, opportunities arose, and when his number was called, the young Dane didn't just step up; he grabbed the shirt with both hands.
It’s not just the goals, though those have been a brilliant, welcome bonus. It’s everything else:
The Work Rate: He runs himself into the ground, pressing from the front in a way that fits Eddie Howe’s blueprint perfectly.
The Physicality: He has adapted to the sheer brutality of Premier League centre-backs with surprising ease, using his frame to hold up the ball and give the midfield a breather.
The Attitude: No complaints, no media noise. Just a young player putting his head down and learning from the coaches, even putting in extra training with Graeme Jones.
This serves as a timely reminder for all of us at St. James' Park. Under this regime, players aren't just bought for who they are today; they are bought for who they can become tomorrow. We saw it with Anthony Gordon, we saw it with Joelinton's resurrection, and now we are seeing it with Osula.
He isn’t the finished product yet, and there will still be bumps in the road. But he has proven he belongs in this team. He has proven he has the ceiling to be a serious asset for Newcastle United for years to come.
So, here’s to you, William. Thank you for proving us and me wrong! Keep making us look foolish 🤣

@NewcastleFansTV If those quotes are true I fail to see any benefit for any party from this arrangement. Unless I’m missing something!?

Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni on the lack of game time for Trevan Sanusi: "He arrived injured and it dragged on.Then, we mustn't forget that he's a young player, arriving from a foreign country, who doesn't speak the language. He found himself in a group that has been working together for a long time, with playing principles and training methods that are perhaps different from those at Newcastle. It was difficult for him.
"I think it's going to be difficult (for Sanusi to make more appearances). He's a kid who must have suffered from the situation. He's always persevered. If Newcastle took a chance on him, it's because they saw potential in him for the future. When you come from there, you want to play as much as possible. We didn't give him the opportunity because we felt he wasn't quite ready for Ligue 1."

How did I get into politics as an outsider? I set my mind on something, and I was determined to achieve it.
These pictures are 12 years apart. I earned the money for my first campaigns working on building sites and doing whatever I could, because I believed in it, and I believed changing veterans’ care in the UK was necessary.
Now I have more time again, I realise how much I miss working with my hands and working on my tools. Never forget what actually makes you happy. Have a good weekend.

@bphillipsonMP Playing this spat out in public is embarrassing and makes me lose what little faith I have in our elected officials.
Given the adolescent vibe, it also feels apt to point out that you started it.
English

You weren’t fit to be Prime Minister.
Your revolting support for Tommy Robinson just underlines that.
Time for Kemi Badenoch to find the guts to chuck you out.
Liz Truss@trussliz
It's time to stop your pathetic attempts at cancellation @bphillipsonMP. Why aren't you focussed on actually dealing with the rape gangs? As for the economy, every single economic indicator is worse now than it was when I was Prime Minister - the gilt yield, debt, growth and unemployment. I know you're desperate because you're losing to Lucy Powell - but this is pitiful.

@TomCutter10 @_EnGee @markgoldbridge I’m convinced he has followers and viewers because his tantrums are so funny to watch. That’s why I do…

@_EnGee @markgoldbridge My mate says he gets followers because he SOUNDS like he knows what he's talking about ....but in reality his football knowledge is laughable

@indykaila @NUFC Interesting to see you write ‘upsetting’ given you have fuelled it so much over the past couple of months

There’s only one greedy 💷 b******” from the @NUFC fans.
This is aimed Alexander Isak. This is so upsetting. He was their hero at one time
