It was just before dawn. Hyderabad city hadn’t fully woken up yet. At Begum Bazar’s Jinsi Chauraha, what looked like an ordinary morning turned into a moment of raw courage. On March 4, Manju Omlata stepped out for a morning walk with her daughter-in-law. As they reached near Hindi Marwadi Vidyalaya, a rowdy-sheeter from Dabirpura, Mohammed Sohel, suddenly lunged at her, trying to snatch the gold chain from her neck. In the struggle, his scooter lost balance and fell. The victim screamed for help. A few meters away, an auto driver, Mohammed Zaheer, had already crossed the spot. But something in his side mirror caught his attention. He had moved nearly 100 meters ahead. He didn’t think twice. Zaheer immediately turned his auto around and sped back. As the accused tried to escape, Zaheer rammed his auto into the bike, knocking him down. The rowdy-sheeter picked up a stick and attacked. Zaheer didn’t back off. He stood his ground, fought back, and stopped him from fleeing. By then, patrolling police reached the spot and took the accused into custody. And Zaheer? He quietly left. No noise. No claim. No reward expected. Later, the victim informed the Goshamahal police about the unknown auto driver who stepped in when it mattered. CCTV cameras had captured everything. The chase. The impact. The fight. Police traced the auto number from the footage and, using technical inputs, identified Zaheer. On Tuesday, at the TGICCC in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar invited Zaheer to his chamber. He was honoured with a cash reward and a commendation certificate. CP VC Sajjanar called him what most people only talk about - a real role model. In a time when many look away, Zaheer chose to act. He risked his life for a stranger. Asked for nothing in return. The accused, Mohammed Sohel, has been arrested by Goshamahal Police. He is a known rowdy-sheeter with 16 cases across police stations.

A man in Odisha dug up his deceased sister’s grave and brought her skeleton to the bank Just to prove she had died. He had been trying to withdraw ₹20,000 from her account, but bank officials kept insisting he bring the account holder in person. Despite repeatedly telling them she had passed away, they didn’t listen. Frustrated and unaware of the legal process, he took this extreme step. This incident shows not just a lack of awareness, but also a failure of basic human understanding in the system.

The notion that India is warming faster than the global average is a misconception; the data presents a different narrative. Recent headlines often claim that India is warming at an alarming, unprecedented rate compared to the rest of the world, but long-term observational data reveals a much more complex—and surprising—reality. When we examine the seasonal temperature trends from 1995 to 2024, specifically during the critical March–May (MAM) pre-monsoon season, India emerges as a global anomaly. While the Arctic, Europe, and parts of the Middle East are experiencing "climate fever" with warming rates as high as 0.6°C to 1.5°C per decade, large swaths of the Indian subcontinent show a significantly more stable trend, often hovering between a mere 0 to 0.2°C per decade. This data suggests that the assumption of India warming "faster" than other regions is not only misleading but factually incorrect when compared to the global mean and high-latitude hotspots. This "Indian Warming Lag" is likely the result of unique regional factors that act as a temporary atmospheric shield. The high concentration of aerosols (dust and pollution) over the Indo-Gangetic Plain scatters incoming solar radiation—a phenomenon known as "solar dimming"—which effectively masks the full force of greenhouse gas warming during the peak daylight hours of spring. Furthermore, the maritime influence of the Indian Ocean and massive regional irrigation projects provide a cooling counter-balance that landlocked northern continents lack. While India is undoubtedly getting warmer, the actual rate of change is among the slowest in Asia, proving that local geography and atmospheric conditions continue to buffer the subcontinent against the more aggressive warming trends seen elsewhere on the globe. In short: India is not the warming epicenter the headlines claim it to be; it is, in fact, one of the most resilient regions against rapid seasonal temperature shifts. Unlike oil bonds, sovereign gold bonds Scheme was designed, implemented and abandoned by Modi Govt only. Modi Govt borrowed Rs. 70,000 crore through SGBs. SGBs have already created a hole of about Rs. 1.5 trillion. Who will Nirmala Sitaraman blame for it? thequint.com/opinion/sovere…

Luxembourg has become the first country in the world to make all standard public transport completely free, covering buses, trams, and trains nationwide. Funded through taxes instead of fares, the policy aims to ease heavy traffic and cut emissions by encouraging people to leave their cars behind. By removing ticket costs and barriers, public transport is treated more like an essential public service, simple, accessible, and open to everyone, including visitors and cross-border commuters. The results have been noticeable: more people are using public transport, roads are less congested, and urban air quality has improved. While premium first-class rail still requires payment, everyday travel is now seamless, just get on and go. This bold approach has positioned Luxembourg as a global example of how making transport free can help shift habits toward greener, more sustainable travel.

A woman is allegedly seen losing her cool on Maharashtra cabinet minister Girish Mahajan, over the traffic snarl caused by the BJP morcha in Mumbai on Tuesday evening. This was during a protest march on the issue of the Women's Reservation Bill. She was heard asking the minister to protest on a ground, and not hold up the traffic by marching on the streets. The opposition hit out at the BJP while appreciating the woman. - @vinivdvc reports Video: Special Arrangement

Thank you! A few weeks ago, the Times of India story about #CoachParamAsawar moved many of us. It highlighted how this dedicated 36-year-old NIS-certified coach from Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, took a personal loan — actually Rs 12 lakhs — to provide underprivileged rural girls with proper kits, boots, travel support, training camps, and residential facilities. His team, District Raisen Football Club (DRFC), went on to create history as the first from Madhya Pradesh to qualify for Tier-2 of the Indian Women’s League, even defeating Odisha FC 1-0 along the way. With help from some friends, I verified facts, got loan details, and payment status, and helped coordinate a donation appeal along with my own contribution. I am touched by the astounding trust and generosity you have all shown. Thanks to your collective support, Coach Param Asawar’s entire loan has now been fully repaid — and much faster than anyone expected. Your kindness has lifted a significant burden from his shoulders and ensured he can focus entirely on coaching these talented girls without financial stress. Coach Param is a highly qualified professional with multiple government certifications, including the prestigious NIS certification. It would be wonderful if the Madhya Pradesh government or corporates committed to grassroots sports come forward to support his coaching work — whether in Raisen or elsewhere in the state. Structured backing could help many more girls from rural backgrounds access quality training and opportunities. Do spread the word to make this happen. From the girls of DRFC and on behalf of Coach Param, thank you once again. *Your response has shown that when people come together with trust and action, real change happens quickly and meaningfully. A No Dues Certificates for the two loans and a personal thank you from Coach Param has been sent to donors whose phone numbers are with me. Some of you connected on email and DM, hence this post. With sincere appreciation
Sucheta Dalal@suchetadalal

An update -- Although Times wrote that Coach Param got a flood of offers to help going up to Rs15 lakhs -- NOTHING of that sort happened. He got NOTHING. Zilch. His EMI bounced. The money was used for coaching and kits. Thanks to the help of a couple of well-wishers, a fundraiser has been started. Anyone wishing to help, DM me for details.
