I think the most encouraging thing about Berube for me is that when Chayka and Sundin meet with Matthews, there’s no way he’s going to want him back. Not to place all the blame on Berube, but Matthews has had the two worst offensive seasons of his career under him.

Now you have so many options available to you whether that’s taking McKenna or Stenberg or one of the D or trading it. It just feels good to finally have a premium asset at your disposal that you could do a variety of things with after having nothing in the cupboards for so long.

Honestly I would’ve been completely content with the fifth overall pick just simply because of the fact they had a better chance of moving down than even staying where they were. I’m still in shock a day later that they won the whole thing. Crazy stuff man.

It is a very realistic scenario that Matthews doesn’t think he can win here and goes full Matthew Tkachuk and asks out. If he’s not shown that they can within a short period of time here, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it happens. What’s so hard to understand about this?
