You don’t want to lambaste rugby officials on social media. But when you watch a ref do what the ref in the @SVNSSeries semi final just did to ensure Aus make the final at home on Australia Day, it’s really hard. Despicable.

@derekalberts1 @danielgallan Spot on Derek. In almost all other sports, the tv official is called in by on field officials or of their own accord. Why does cricket make it a captain’s call. Seems odd. Let the officials officiate.

And that’s perfectly fine. I’m on the other side in that I feel glaring incorrect decisions which are then displayed across screens for everyone to see aren’t rectified. I mean - the visuals aside, ideally any incorrect decisions are fixed. Thankfully it didn’t have too big an impact in this match, but imagine a similar scenario in a World Cup/WTC Final where a couple of runs are needed with one wicket left and a batter is incorrectly dismissed - and while he/she is walking back amid the opposing side’s celebrations - the big screen pumps out the real result - namely ‘not out.’ Also, with the advent of DRS, Bavuma is now being blamed for not reviewing, yet there’s been little mention of the umpire who got it wrong - which is his primary job. Sure Bavuma should have reviewed but very few of us have experienced the intensity and speed of Test cricket to understand just how fast deliveries are and how difficult it is to know if you got bat on ball.

If Abbas had overstepped it would have been immediately overturned by the third umpire - yet nothing can be done while replays everywhere confirm the wrong decision was made. Unleash the technology for the good of the game.
