@_Rimarina_ the "everyone is ugly" criticism is because most evns are being drawn by hobby artists with zero to no pay. Once you go to more commercial evns with better funding you start to see better quality art in general imo

Honestly it's really hard not to be mad about the way people talk about non JP vns when: -most of them are FREE, made by a single person or two giving their all and not backed up by any big publisher -a lot of it reeks of racism/orientalism, statements like "everyone is ugly"

@HaiHaina I actually know about silent kingdom! I tired to play it but the demo broke for me after the first battle sadly but somnium eleven has the exact problem I’m talking about it’s not about art quality it about character designs like all of these guys are hot even the elegant one is

@wlwxinyan @ajarakamokkuren Most of those aren’t otome games they don’t normally have set female protagonist or multiple love interests and even if they do they don’t really follow like actual Yandere tropes their just mildly toxic and obsessive they don’t commit any physical or emotional violence

Barely any nerdy or analytical smart men w glasses. They rarely ever branch into tropes I like outside of that.

@HaiHaina For me personally it feels like a lot of them aren’t made with actual love for the genre a lot of them feel like ironic satire and the “everyone is ugly” it’s normally racism from what I’ve seen it’s mostly bc every character tools like the same buff man in a YA novel

@deviIspire Personally 2 things bother me a lot about Western dating sims: 1. For otomes, I see so many of them try to sell a "strong MC". Like... Damn, god forbid the girl lacked backbone and that's why she's in this mess? 2. A lot of the writers seem to write with disdain for the genre.
