AN APOLOGY I was seriously wrong and insensitive in one of the several media appearances I made yesterday in reaction to the death of Ann Widdecombe. I got the timing and tone of my initial word portrait of her wrong. Of course I shared, and share, the horror at her murder and the respect for her remarkable and feisty political career. I also know that many people loved her for her subsequent showbiz stardom. Her untimely death is a horrible thing. My mistaken view was that in the context of rolling news coverage, I was being asked to contribute as an obituarist who has known her and interacted with her since the 1980s. This approach was premature. At no point was I expressing my personal feelings about her, that's not what I do. I was discussing her life in the round, based on the record of known facts and what she has said about herself, along with some recollections of our personal interactions. My choice of words on the spur of the moment was clumsy. I did not intend to offend though obviously I did.

This girl is cruising down the highway in her stick shift, windows down, wind in her hair, belting out songs while she shifts gears without missing a beat. She looks genuinely happy and in control.
Most people these days never learn how to drive manual. It takes real timing and coordination to get the clutch and gas right, especially when you’re just trying to have fun and sing along. Seeing her do it so naturally makes you realize how much of that skill is disappearing.
Do you think driving stick is becoming a lost art, or do you still think it’s worth teaching people even if almost every new car is automatic?

It’s to do with water being an inalienable right, so he should be allowed to drink as much as he wants. I’d be angry if I was the parent, and there’s no indication if they were doing refills or whatever. It is 34°, we have to take into account kids getting dehydrated fast. But that’s literally just my take- I may be wrong.

- Child did something wrong.
- Staff gave child the chance to put things right.
- Child chose not to and ran off instead.
- Staff left with no option other than to take appropriate action.

I’d paid the remaining balance and explained multiple times through floods of tears that she’d died and simply couldn’t do that. Took 2 months

I’m carrying out the horrible task of ringing Dad’s utility and service providers to inform them of his death. Bereavement teams at his banks- all so lovely. Same with @SkyUK and @VodafoneUK, so compassionate and backdated termination of service to the date of his death.
@virginmedia, however, totally different story. Will NOT BACKDATE termination of contract, only to today. It was only 2.5 weeks ago, but it’s the principle.
Why is this jarring policy in place, @virginmedia, and differs so much from your competitors?
Has left a really poor impression of your company at an incredibly difficult time.
