The Coach Eller retweetledi

This is bound to be an unpopular post with some, but I LOVE HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER. Not for recruiting or the level of play, but for what it provides young players that club does not. I will often hear coaches claim that it players digress or develop bad habits. I disagree. First of all, “if you’re good, you’re good.“ And I believe that young athletes who are playing any sport in any environment are put into situations where they have to react, make decisions, execute and grow. When it comes to girls in particular, high school provides a platform for growth in confidence and leadership that far outweighs the technical and tactical compromise for just a few months out of the year. The MLS is basically high school for Messi, and he seems just fine.
Obviously, to play at the next level, the development that club provides is ESSENTIAL. And I think there is no reason that both platforms can’t coexist for the majority of players. There’s nothing quite like the camaraderie on a high school team and playing for your community— not to mention the pure FUN.
