I’m probably happier with this than most. Liverpool’s issue is not getting into dangerous areas. It’s what happens when they get there. The raw numbers do not suggest some wild structural collapse. Territory, final third entries, penalty area touches, open-play chance creation, xG, all broadly fine. The issue is operational efficiency. Wrong pass. Extra touch. Delayed run. Poor shot. Lack of chemistry. Too many attacks die before becoming genuinely dangerous. That is where context sits. Automatisms come from repetition, stable lineups and the right profiles doing complementary things. If the wings lack the right mix, the midfield does not naturally control tempo, and the front line keeps changing, the final phase becomes improvised instead of instinctive. Coaching matters, obviously. But this is more nuanced than ‘system broken’. It’s largely efficiency. Fix the squad. Give it a proper prep cycle. Then go vroom.

I think the feelings of Liverpool being "stale" in possession aren't from earlier stages of build up, but from inefficiency in the final 3rd. - 2nd for final 3rd passes completed - 2nd for penalty area touches - 4th for open play npxG On the surface this isn't so bad, but as ratios: - dead last at turning final 3rd passes completed into penalty area touches - 11th for turning penalty area touches into open play xG Median efficiency once inside the box from open play, but abysmal at converting advanced possession into touches in dangerous areas.
