99% of the people of God from Adam to Jesus never saw a theophany, never heard the voice of God, probably didn't even come into contact with a prophet. What they had were scrolls. Those scrolls were read and they heard. It's like us. - Jeff Meyers (Malachi Podcast)

Israel never goes backwards. When the tabernacle is destroyed and dismantled, they never rebuild it. They go on to the next thing, which is a temple. When the temple is destroyed, they don't rebuild that temple, they rebuild a new temple. - Theopolis Podcast on Malachi

Today we begin a new podcast series on the Book of Malachi. We begin by looking at the restoration era in which Malachi prophesied. The team discusses topics such as why the so-called "intertestamental period" is actually a misunderstood and vital phase of covenant history, whether the exiles brought idolatry back from Babylon (and why they didn't), and the myth of "400 years of silence" between the Old and New Testaments. This is a rich conversation that sets us up for a serious look into one of the more neglected books of the Old Testament. The Leap of Delight by: Bradley Helgerson At the Dissident Dialogues conference in May of 2024, renowned evolutionary biologist and atheist Richard Dawkins questioned author Ayaan Hirsi Ali about her recent conversion to Christianity. During the discussion Ali admitted, with surprising candor, that her newfound faith is not based on empirical evidence but a conscious choice. Having been deeply moved by the Christian story, she simply decided to believe it. For Dawkins and many modernists like him, such willful belief represents a brazen disregard of epistemic duty, the intellectual equivalent of the unpardonable sin. But is it always “madness” to believe something on insufficient evidence, as the modern maxim dictates? Read more: theopolisinstitute.com/the-leap-of-de…

The Tree & the Chaff: Images in Psalm 1 (Part 2) with: Alastair Roberts A biblical reflection on the imagery of trees and chaff, showing how Scripture contrasts the fruitful life of the righteous with the weightless, rootless fate of the wicked. youtu.be/LRnOsoeZOl0

The gospel isn't an apolitical message that happens to have political implications. It’s not a message of private salvation with downstream public consequences. Exactly the opposite. The gospel is public and political truth with personal consequences. All the vocabulary of the gospel is political. The Greek word for “gospel” – euaggelion, the word from which we derive “evangelical” – refers to a royal proclamation of victory. Jesus is “Christ,” the “anointed one,” which is a royal title. Jesus the Anointed One comes preaching, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is here.” Jesus is King: That is the gospel. God raised Him up to be Lord and Anointed One. Jesus came as the son of David to reign from a heavenly throne. That political declaration has a personal import. If you’ve been baptized, you’re a subject of King Jesus. You must trust Him, be loyal to Him, obey His commands. You don’t belong to yourself. You can’t live any way you please. You're His man, His woman. Live like it. - Peter Leithart theopolisinstitute.com/leithart_post/…

Christopher Chen (Evil Empire?) argues that Theophilus (the named recipient of Luke and Acts) was a Roman official, and then lowers the boom: "Luke-Acts was addressed to a Roman official to demonstrate how he could become a proponent for the gospel.” Luke peoples the Gospel with centurions, proconsuls, governors, soldiers to provide object-lessons for Theophilus. Luke-Acts is a “mirror of magistrates” not incidentally, but by design.

The Theopolis Podcast Episode 861 Outside the Camp, Into the City (The End of Hebrews) In this final episode of our Hebrews series, Peter Leithart, Alastair Roberts, and James Bejon conclude their walk through the epistle by working through the closing exhortations and benediction of Hebrews 13. They explore the Church’s sacrificial life in the new covenant - marked by praise, hospitality, generosity, endurance, and faithful life together under Christ. They also reflect on the meaning of “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” and the call to go to Jesus “outside the camp.” The conversation also highlights the Eucharistic and liturgical patterns woven through the chapter. The episode concludes with reflections on Hebrews as a whole, including its use of the Psalms, its vision of perseverance in a time of upheaval, and its presentation of Christ as priest, sacrifice, shepherd, and king.
