@SoundCloud Thanks for clarifying this. But your terms would allow you to train AI on people’s music. Can you commit to not doing this in future, and update your terms accordingly? You haven’t actually said it’s not something you’ll do. I think that would allay lots of people’s concerns.

SoundCloud has always been and will remain artist-first. We don’t use artist content to train AI. We don’t allow scraping. We’ve even added a “no AI” tag to block unauthorized use. Any future AI tools will be built for artists to enhance discovery, protect rights, and expand opportunities. We hear your concerns and remain committed to transparency, artist control, and fair use.

SoundCloud issued a statement about the AI training part of its terms of service. Good news that they haven't used people's music to train AI models, but it's worrying that they haven't said they won't in future. It seems carefully worded, and notably doesn't rule out training generative AI models on artists' work in future. SoundCloud seems to claim the right to train on people's uploaded music in their terms. I think they have major questions to answer over this. I checked the wayback machine - it seems to have been added to their terms on 12th Feb 2024. I'm a SoundCloud user and I can't see any emails from them alerting me to this. I certainly wouldn't have accepted. My question to SoundCloud is: does this include generative AI models? If so, I'll remove my music and would encourage others to do the same. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt before removing my music. Hoping they address this asap.

The world these days (happened in a public library): A man with mental health issues verbally abused and harassed a group of women. Two young guys laughed about it and cheered him up. The one man who was supposed to be an authority (manager) ran and hidden himself behind books 😵‍💫
