A really enjoyable day at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre working with @asanortheast Region coaches and parents as part of the Northumberland and Durham Swimming Development Camp. An enlightening session with coaches 'chewing the fat' over the real life challenges that they face and working together to find some practical solutions whilst we were thrilled with the attendance, interactions and feedback from the parents session.

'What motivates your child to play sport?' Have you ever asked them the question? Are you on the same page as them? A growing body of research is showing that it is not so much the quantity of motivation that matters, but rather the quality of motivation. In other words, not all motivation is equal, and some types are better for our children’s wellbeing than others. parentsinsport.co.uk/2019/02/07/wha…

'My child is always tired, hungry (or both!)' A lot of kids normalise feeling tired and think it’s just part of sport. BUT, when you’re young, healthy and athletic, tiredness shouldn’t be your default setting. Just because it’s common, doesn’t mean it’s ok. If your child is always tired, hungry, achy or struggling to recover, nutrition is often a big part of the picture. When feeding young athletes, nutrition doesn’t have to be perfect but it does have to be intentional. If you would like some more help with understanding the signs of under fuelling and knowing how to fill the gaps for your child, check out our book for sports parents. @performance canteen parentsinsport.co.uk/product/how-to…

'Schools Programmes Flourishing at WWPIS' The last few years has seen a steady growth working across a number of school environments providing workshops and webinars for a range of leadership, staff, coaches and parents. Also included as part of some of these programmes has been access to a customised WWPIS platform for all parents and coaches. Sustainable annual programmes and building real relationships on the ground, whilst working within the context of that school have been the hallmark of the best work to date. We are not a 'one hit wonder type of organisation' or interested in providing mass education that lacks connection specifically to those who are part of a specific sporting community. Following our talks at the PADSIS Conference: The Professional Association of Directors of Sport in Independent Schools in March, we have been inundated with requests for the end of this academic year and for next year. If you like what you see above and would like to find out more about our work in schools then please email workingwithparentsinsport@gmail.com to request our latest schools brochure.
