Speaking our truths out loud is the only way to fight confusion. Keeping it stored away inside our bones and brains THATS what creates confusion. Desantis isn’t afraid for kids - he’s afraid for himself. HE doesn’t want to be confused. He doesn’t know how to exist in a world..

Saying who we are out loud and feeling the freedom of “becoming” is the most important part of being human. I didn’t realize how lucky I was. Kids are so smart and deserve to have these conversations. Adults try to protect them but by doing so they rip away aliveness and color….

My mom wasn’t perfect. Not even close. But one the greatest gifts she gave me was the ability to be who i told her i was. She didn’t make me grow my hair back after losing it from chemo. I told my family that I was changing my name to “Dave.” No one shamed me or told me no.

I needed her to know my big secret. I felt so alone. When they would say “boys to the left, girls to the right” I would just freeze. I remember staring at the bathrooms in school trying to figure out which one I belonged in. Kids would be like yo what’s the hold up?! Haha..

You might not know this…but the song “Eugene” is based on my experience as a kid growing up in the 90s who felt like a boy trapped in a girls body. I told my mom when i was about 6 or 7 - crying, I was so embarrassed. I remember even then feeling like a monster.
