@legs4brunch I don't really think that's the same. 50 actively engages with rappers directly, 50 is more like some old head with busted knees that comes to the park just to talk shit.

@yc Because with all due respect to his discography, he never once discussed in his music anything of real societal import. He’s just a rich asshole now

@YSLONIKA U, nor Gen Z move the culture. You're a meme hate page who lives for hot takes with no substance to you. You couldn't even begin to understand why Hes allowed to say "I'm jay z"

“i’m fcking jay z” you’re literally a nobody outside of america, not a single Gen Z person can name 5 of your songs.. your biggest achievement in the last 30 years was marrying Beyoncé.
Kurrco@Kurrco

JAY-Z responds to claims that he chose Kendrick Lamar for the Super Bowl as a move to undermine Drake: “I chose the guy that was having a monster year, it wasn't in some sort of alliance to a battle... Like what? I’m f*cking Jay-Z.” (via GQ)

@Osinachi_W Acclaim isn't a stat, none of what was listed for Kanye is in any way statistical.

There’s something I’ve noticed on Hip-Hop Twitter. When you critique an artist, most fanbases bring stats—streams, awards, acclaim. For example, critique Kanye his fans talk about his creativity and innovation, when you critique Drake his fans talk about his numbers, charts, hits and dominance, when you critique Jcole, his fans talk about his skillset, his relatability and authenticity. But when you critique a certain artist, his fan base makes it about race and identity, they'll say you're not Black American so you don't understand the music, sometimes they even go as far as saying you're not smart enough to enjoy the music, even when it genuinely sounds terrible. We all know what fanbase that is right? 👀👀

@egoisthebrand I appreciate this good faith response, but those writers were in the song credits whenever he'd work with them and weren't there during the battle. UMG itself didn't give Pusha the greenlight, but didn't hold back Kendrick at all, given his diss tracks saw the light of day.

@_Who_DT @Less_HumbleTeej The songs, the success of said songs, and protection of said success are constructed. Very old-school pop music things, but don’t operate well for long in the Hip Hop space. This battle was also an existential one. The competition of rap is also self-correcting.

It feels TO ME like Cole and Hov are coddling Drake’s feelings But Drake plays dirty in these beefs. And always has. He didn’t get anything that wasn’t coming to him. Tough titty.

@Less_HumbleTeej Plus, while stans/bots are an important conversation (specifically if we’re talking who stokes & profits from them) the same nuance can be applied to the *cultural benefits* of this battle. Dot won against an industry construct, lifted up a coast, & defended Black women loudly

@DebatingHipHop_ N/A, nobody has been historic, gun to my head J. Cole, Vince, Future and Carti I'd guess would be your contenders. Cole over them for ability and personal enjoyment (barely over Vince), Carti has a trillion imitators in the underground and Carti is one of Future's.
