@JudithRakowski @meredithgore @olliewearn That sounds great, Meredith and Judith! We will be there in April doing some FGDs to ground truth the interview results with the hunters as well as women in the community. We would definitely welcome your comments, input, and research goals in the FGD guide we create!

Our new paper on COVID-19 and wildlife trade is out! bit.ly/3IaBrgi. Key takeaways are that the effects of the pandemic varied in rural communities across KH, LA, and VN, but overall a negative economic impact was felt with effects on hunting and trade.

@olliewearn @meredithgore Oh cool! I didn't know that FFI and Meredith had collaborated for that work in Nghe An! Good to know! And that's a great diversity of sites! I would be very interested to know any generalizations and also spatially-specific trends between them!

@__EODavis FFI also works in Nghe An (including in collaboration with @meredithgore, who I hope/guess you know already!), but also in a few northern sites (Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Ha Giang), Phong Nha, and a site in Central Highlands (Kon Tum). Quite a diverse picture all told!

@olliewearn It would be very cool to present a robust picture of these interactions/patterns from across a bigger area of VN- &yes, I'm surprised we haven't overlapped either! SDZWA's collaboration has been pretty focused in Nghe An, but I'm always keen to learn more about other areas in VN

@olliewearn That's interesting to hear you've seen similar trends elsewhere in Vietnam! I'd be curious to hear more- we are actually planning a VN-focused paper with results from our full hunter survey (also from Bidoup). If you'd be interested in pooling data/knowledge, let me know!

And finally, thank you to the @sandiegozoo for supporting #IWT work! I'm very lucky to be able to spend my time focusing on such an important topic, and I am always grateful to SDZWA for providing that space and opportunity.

There's something very unattractive about people who list countries they've visited like they're items to tick off a to-do list or say they've "done [country]"

Another day, another article I'm reviewing where women were actively excluded from the data collection process, despite a research aim of "understanding the community". It should be obvious that this is foolish & counterproductive to informing successful conservation initiatives
