Looking at this through 🇨🇦 lens: 100% impossible to replicate. Local tax control, financing & voter approval mechanisms that make projects like this possible simply dont exist in 🇨🇦 Part of why theres no expressive sports culture Bureaucrats & shot callers determine our culture

Insane: Buford High School in Georgia has a remarkable $62 MILLION stadium that opened for last year's season. The stadium is state-of-the-art and seats ~10,000 fans. This is a nicer facility than some NFL teams. 🤯🤯🤯

@UncleRaay @4totera Public money. Financial engine for this were property tax backed bonds. Residents voted & approved it. Will cost them each roughly $60/month for 25 years (commercial properties obviously higher). 17K population. Barely 6000 households We don't think like this. Opposite culture

We🇨🇦are so far behind on building stadiums of any decent size to help Our communities Our athletes Our owners It’s frustrating to watch others build sufficient size stadiums But we in🇨🇦sit on the sidelines & watch with envy & anger Every province should have 1stadium like this!

Writing like this requires that you see the general 🇨🇦 population as unintelligent & disengaged cuz only that assumption would make anyone reduce these types of stories/studies/reports to oversimplified, lowest common denominator logic. Catch tomorrow's story: The sky is blue.

@NoterTodFooty In this case it is. I was reading something on the lineup of cities wanting to host this in next few years with new infrastructure included in the bids. Even dumber is that we think that on some level, even as small as it is, we think we are part of this sports machine.

Does that include "memberships" fees that give you first access and higher odds at ticket access the more you overpay? Like Canada Soccer did with the #WorldCup2026 tickets? *Including a tax slip... **Which you still haven't looked into .@CanRevAgency
PuckEmpire@puckempire

BREAKING: Doug Ford is banning the resale of tickets for more than face value in Ontario. The government did not say exactly when the resale cap will come into effect, but that once it does, it will apply to all ticket resales going forward.

@__LFF__ If you look at some of the deals, agents were selling homes to buyers at massive marked up values who qualified under false pretences for financing never intending to pay for the home. Buyers disappeared, agents made mega dough.

Merci .@SorayaMartinezF d’avoir pris les devants en soutenant un investissement public significatif dans le sport. À un moment où d’autres préfèrent rester en retrait votre leadership contribue à bâtir des communautés plus fortes. 🇨🇦⚽📈 #CanWNT #CanMNT

Montreal's Mayor Soraya's Ferrada open letter to Canada Soccer President Peter Augruso to bring National Training Center to Montreal "Together with my team, I am firmly committed to enhancing the visibility and appeal of Canada’s second-largest city. In my view, Montréal is a strategic and ideal location to host the National Training Centre (NTC) project. I therefore wish to express my support for this major initiative, which embodies Montréal’s reputation for excellence and innovation and is fully in line with the legacy that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will leave behind. Montreal is distinguished by a rich and diverse sports ecosystem that contributes to its reputation both nationally and internationally. The city is a hub for sports in Canada, thanks to high-quality infrastructure, dedicated academic institutions, and a deeply rooted sports culture. This vitality is particularly evident in soccer, which is experiencing remarkable momentum and sustained growth in our region. Soccer in Montreal is supported by a strong and dynamic network. Three professional teams compete in the greater metropolitan area: CF Montréal in Major League Soccer, the Montreal Roses in the Northern Super League, and FC Supra in the Canadian Men’s Premier League. These clubs work closely with regional soccer associations and their clubs to foster the development of local talent, illustrating the exemplary depth and structure of Montreal’s soccer ecosystem. Furthermore, the number of registered soccer players continues to grow year after year, confirming the sport’s popularity and appeal among young people and families. This dynamic creates an environment that is particularly conducive to talent development, coach training, and the organization of high-level competitions. Montréal also benefits from exceptional international accessibility, particularly thanks to its airport, which offers direct flights to major European and North American hubs. Recognized for its initiatives in diversity, accessibility, and sustainable development, the city is perfectly aligned with the values promoted by the project. The establishment of the CNE will also generate significant economic benefits, boost sports tourism, and strengthen civic pride. That is why the City of Montreal is committed to working closely with Canada Soccer and its partners, notably CF Montreal, to ensure the project’s complete success. I am grateful that you consider Montreal a strategic partner for this project of national and international scope, and I look forward to working with you, Mr. President."

@__LFF__ @craigforrest1 @footy_prime Also, this is a fundamental violation of the covenant between match officials (referees) and the governing body. The thing that protects referees from their job being absolute psychological suicide is that their decisions on the pitch are final. It all disintegrates otherwise.
