I miss beauticians. NOT hairstylists. BEAUTICIANS. The ones where all you had to do was show up & they would knew just what your hair needed. The ones that shampooed, conditioned, & detangled your hair. The ones that did protein & hot oil treatments and kept up on trimming your hair. The ones that kept up with the latest hairstyles and tried them on you. The ones who kept you in the hair salon all day on a Saturday, but you were fine with it because the hairstyle lasted 2 weeks or more ❤️

Lynchings of African Americans have been historically underreported due to white media bias. That is why the work of Ida B. Wells and other Black journalists were so important! Mainstream media would not report the murders or report it as something other than a lynching.
Based Bandita@BasedBandita

Pam Grier claims she had to “close her eyes as a kid in Ohio” just to avoid seeing all the black people being hung on trees. A quick Google search shows that Pam Grier was born in 1949 and the last lynching to happen in Ohio, was in 1911. She’s a liar.

Reverend Jesse Jackson called on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope; to step forward and say “Send me” wherever we have a chance to make an impact. How fortunate we were that Jesse Jackson answered that call. What a great debt we owe to him.

Black-owned bookstores in the U.S. now have their own directory for the first time ever, launched by the nonprofit National Association of Black Bookstores — who found that: • There are 306 Black-owned bookstores nationwide (8% of independent bookstores) • 14 states have no Black-owned bookstore • Nearly 90% report annual revenue at under $250,000 • Sales of books by Black authors declined by 14%, despite an increase in overall print sales Check out the directory: nab2.org/state-of-black…

I know that there’s ~discourse~ about books AND hoodoo happening on the TL today but I would like to say that the world would be so much better if more of us sat down and studied The Salt Eaters by Toni Cade Bambara right now

And may I add, some of her most meaningful work, to me, is that she led production for Gullah Gullah Island and held consulting and writing roles across multiple generations of children’s television. She is a Black history icon. She is a women’s history icon.

Yall, please stop drinking so much.. if you have kids please cut back, if you aren’t trying to end your life please cut back. If you have someone here and you know they need you please cut back!! People Working in the hospital are seeing people younger and younger with all kinds of alcohol related illnesses. One person is hallucinating.. due to not having alcohol. One person has alcoholic pancreatitis. Someone’s skin was completely orange from alcoholic cirrhosis. It’s only a matter of time before those shots and bottles catch up to you. Please reconsider drinking every day or even every weekend. Alcohol is poison to the body. Alcohol is the only substance you can DIE from the withdrawal from not having it when your body is addicted. Im only posting cause this shit is real and maybe yall just don’t know but please reconsider #aho
