@LaLigaMichael Only thing stopping both of them would be injuries. Hopefully Barça and Atleti can manage their workload smartly in this world of increasing games

@henrywinter "He knows Bentancur, Dragusin, Kulusevski from his time as asst coach at Juventus." So he knows a permanently injured player, a currently injured player and a 4th choice CB.

Running, pressing, aggression. Plenty of buzzwords following Igor Tudor into Tottenham Hotspur. Not words you’d always associate with Spurs, although you would with new signing Conor Gallagher. Plenty of scrutiny of Tudor’s record at Juventus (12 wins in 25) and overall (335 games, 150 wins, 105 losses). Focus also on his swift impact after arrival at Udinese (2018) and Hellas Verona (2021). Spurs need jump-leads. Tudor can’t affect long injury list that hampered Thomas Frank. He can change a mood. He can focus players’ attention - they’re in a dogfight (and West Ham improving). Key is how Spurs players respond to a caretaker. He knows Bentancur, Dragusin, Kulusevski from his time as asst coach at Juventus. Knows Kolo Muani (on loan) from his time as coach of Juventus. Some players will simply be buoyed by Frank’s departure. Let’s hope all of them also accept their own responsibility in team’s travails. They face Arsenal next so they’d better be at it. Spurs need the fight Tudor embodied as a player at Hajduk Split, Juventus and Siena, as well as three tournaments with Croatia (55 caps, header v England at E2004. team-mate of Modric). Of course, it’s a risk by Spurs, all appointments are, but who else was out there as caretaker? Whatever doubts about elements of Tudor’s managerial record, Spurs fans will definitely be positive. Many will simply be relieved that Frank is no longer in the dug-out. Many will appreciate a more aggressive, attacking approach promised by Tudor. #THFC

@ThePaPPod @MatteMoretto @marca Certainly not a bad thing by any means. Atalanta were a great watch under Gasp. Just hope Cholo can find a way to combine it with some traditional Atleti steel.

Eddie Howe is doing a remarkable job at Newcastle United, given injuries (seven regulars atm), new players settling in (some with no pre-season), the distracting Isak saga, more games, PSR, wage restrictions, turnover of executives and losing the support of the popular Amanda Staveley, such an important link between dressing-room and boardroom. Howe doesn’t complain. He just gets on with overcoming difficulties and adversities. He needs - and deserves - more support from upstairs. Newcastle fans understandably have raised expectations because of wealthy owners. Expectations also raised by Howe himself with 2x CL qualification and a first domestic trophy in 70 years. Newcastle are in the knock-out stage of the CL, fourth round of the FA Cup, three points off seventh in the Premier League. Newcastle’s many clear-eyed fans have seen worse. #NUFC

Won't be on any best SB uniform matchup lists. But I suspect this one will look much better than many are expecting under the setting Santa Clara sun. These two teams avoiding navy clash is a big win. Plus base colors and accents set the stage for strong complementary contrast.

@PaddyMcGonagle7 @henrywinter Out of all our central midfielders, he was the worst one. To get €40m for him is a late Christmas present for us. Always gave 100% though, so wish him the best.

Conor Gallagher is a smart signing by Spurs. He brings some of the qualities they are crying out for. He brings leadership, and could be a future captain. He's a very positive character and could bring the best out of others. Xavi Simons might benefit from Gallagher’s energy and support. He brings a ferocious press which Spurs need (Dominic Solanke’s return will help). Gallagher also brings a point to prove, especially to Thomas Tuchel. He’s played 22x for England, been to the last two tournaments but has slipped down the midfield pecking order with the rise of Elliot Anderson, Curtis Jones and Adam Wharton, Alex Scott’s emergence and Jordan Henderson’s return. He brings versatility - four different positions for England. He’s a 6 or 8, capable of runs into box. He has the athleticism, work-rate and stamina for box-to-box role. Returning from Atletico Madrid, the 25-year-old brings tactical savviness and a more streetwise streak having played 77x under Diego Simeone. He brings total commitment, as former clubs will attest, including Chelsea, whom he captained (including against Spurs) and loan clubs like Palace where he was POTY. He does get booked too often (66 xYC, 2xRC) but improved recently. He's more than a “Pitbull” as dubbed by Atletico. Gallagher brings a decent but not overly special passing range (Spurs’ midfield still lacks a Wharton-type) and decent scoring touch (33 goals in 290 club games), and in big games: for Palace at Manchester City and at Brighton; the late curling winner for Chelsea at Palace in 2022, and two more at Palace in 2024; and for Atletico v Real in CL last year after 27 seconds. He also brings availability, always an issue for Spurs with their injury record. In the last two seasons, Gallagher’s played 60 and 54 games (27 so far this season). He never hides, never shirks responsibility. Tottenham fans should (eventually) forget Gallagher's Chelsea roots. He's exactly the type of character and player that Spurs need. #THFC
