@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter That people "understand it's unofficial"?
I just pointed out how to this day, Brazilians treat frisk as a her
Translations have an immense power on how people treat the media, be it official or not
English

@__aly2 @MaskedBatter This doesn't make my statement incorrect.
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter Funny, because it seems there is a lot of LATAM players complaining about this issue
It's almost like the LATAM fanbase is very big, and so the amount of people who play the fan translations is also big
English

@__aly2 @MaskedBatter The amount of people playing fan translations are nothing compared to the amount of people playing an official release. Most playing the fan translation understand it's unofficial and subject to change.
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter Oh right, I just checked
"United States"
That explains a lot
English

@__aly2 @MaskedBatter Hey man if you're fine with sludge, good for you I guess.
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter Why are you acting like the translation would be terrible?
It wouldn't, most games have excellent translations at launch these days
Don't try to be dismissive, there is no reason to believe the translation would be bad
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter Don't you see the paradox?
By letting people play the game only in a fan translation, they will forever have the "wrong vision" of the game he so desperately wants to protect
By directing an official translation he would at least be sure major mistakes would not be made
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter But then, the people who don't understand English will have the wrong idea about the game forever
If he does REALLY care that people understand his vision, then this would matter, don't you think?
Frisk is still referred in Brazil as "she" because the fan translation did too
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter Why the fuck would it be LITERAL SHIT?
Why does it have to be the MOST PERFECT translation made by man or "literal shit"
It would probably just be a very good translation with minor mistakes
If he does care that much about his game, I doubt the translation would have many issued
English

@__aly2 @MaskedBatter You might be okay with him dropping literal shit and fixing it later but Toby isn't. Frankly I'm not either. I'd rather it be done right the first time.
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter So what's your argument?
If translations can be fixed, and have been before, why would he not help the game be translated and fix any issues that arrived?
English

@MaskedBatter @__aly2 I never said or implied anything like that, neither did Toby.
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter And this argument is even worse when toby said that "fan translations exist"
If he wants his fans to understand "his vision", they why the fuck would he trust people to play with non official translations?
It's even more possible that those fan translations fuck up
English

@__aly2 @MaskedBatter Most books that get localized end up getting re-localized over and over because of issues. Even the relatively good localizations still have unaddressed issues.
It's his art and he wants it to be up to his standards.
English

@tothewilderyou @ImagesDeltarune Okay, but most things get translated these days
Books, movies, animes, games (even most big indies)
There's no reason for UT/DR to be an exception
He can choose to not translate his games, but he will stand out in days where everything gets translated
English

@ImagesDeltarune Also one thing I feel people don't understand is they seem to be taking Toby's words to mean he doesn't trust translators with his idea when to me it reads more as him not trusting himself enough to direct and help the team properly.
English

@CrimsonSmasher @MaskedBatter Hey man, what about like, every book in existence?
I do think Dune has more nuance and difficult writing than fucking Undertale
And even then, you can probably buy all Dune books in most languages
What's the excuse?
English

@MaskedBatter It's not "translation bad" it's that good ones take a ton of effort.
Silksong is a game where you occasionally meet a guy that makes a vague statement before looking off into the distance and chuckling, UTDR has at least a paragraph of text for every room and every enemy.
English

@PanaLemonPTY Incrível ver charges políticas sobre esse tema haha
Acho que charges políticas tá no sangue da LATAM
Português

@chudbucket12256 @getovrz The curses embody the negative emotions people feel, so it's fair to assume that the roach curse is filthy because derives off the negative emotion people feel towards filthy roaches
That's what I think at least
English

@getovrz Roaches aren't actually inherently filthy so it's not unhygenic, they only carry disease if they're nesting or feeding in particularly nasty areas
English

@MISSSKYFLOWER @GroundedBears Yeah, he did have a ideological collapse, that made him do evil things
Like, I am going to repeat myself, I don't think there is a world where killing innocent kids is not evil
The character can have all the nuance in the world, but what he did was evil, even if he "didn't enjoy"
English

@__aly2 @GroundedBears If he were just “evil,” we wouldn’t have needed an entire arc showing his ideological collapse.
He made unforgivable choices but he didn’t make them out of random spite. Nor did he enjoy it.
That nuance is kind of the point of his character.
English

@MISSSKYFLOWER @GroundedBears I dunno man, he did kill a lot of innocent people
I don't think there is a way to justify that
The children in that village did not need to die, he just killed them out of spite
If that's not evil, I don't know what is
English

@__aly2 @GroundedBears You can't be a Geto fan and think he's evil. Geto is not straight up evil. He's a tragic extremist and his actions were based on trauma and self superiority complex. He is a fallen hero who's morally bankrupt. Gege wanted us to feel conflicted about him.
